Questions for Danny
« on: 4 Feb 2025, 08:04 pm »
Keep in mind that I ask these questions simply out of curiosity. I have absolutely no hidden agendas, nor am I looking for any negative judgment to put on you. It's just the way my mind works.
1- Do you have formal education, or a mentor, in areas relating to what you do as far as speaker engineering is concerned?
2- How did you get started in this business, was it something that you kind of stumbled into out of a hobby that you got into?
3- When your DIY business becomes really(as it seems to be doing)successful, have you considered what you will do if you are approached by one of the big corporations that want to buy your company?

These are good questions. Danny answered questions 1 & 2 on one of his podcasts a while back, but I don't remember what he said. It might be an interesting podcast for Danny to do an origin story and weave in how he learned to design crossovers. And if he could do it again, what learning approach would he take? That "story" could be quite instructive, even for the novice.

I'd like to add a 4th question -- why don't high-end speaker manufacturers hire people like Danny????  I always think Danny should be too busy to talk to his DIY customers because he's designing several crossovers weekly for big companies. Wilson Audio should be on a Zoom call with Danny right now!

This thread is now a Danny AMA thread. Jk. Maybe... 👀
Danny, does the Bully have enough bass output alone for HT or would a separate sub (and what kind?) be a good choice?

Since a hotdog is essentially meat stuffed into a tube, when you eat a hotdog do you become the hotdog?

Check out this interview: https://youtu.be/ZKB1L2mv5FM?si=oAf1CxTkOVZKYjNP

I have several degrees, but not in this field. I am mostly self taught.

I was a hobbyist since the age of about 14. One thing lead to another and then I launched GR Research with a buddy of mine....

I guess everything is for sale for enough money and at one time I considered selling it to do some other things within the industry. Right now I am feeling good about the direction things are going and moving. As an exit plan I would rather back away from daily operations and let my employees run it while I focus on the aspects of the business that I really enjoy.
