This will be interesting. And there are so many things...
Opinions vary on how to get "there", but I'd suggest that "there" is what you like, not what someone tells you that you like.
I can assure you that box speakers can deliver a world class experience... and others prefer open baffle to be happy - both views are correct.
Bass can be handled, depending upon placement and the presentation you want / like. I have experienced open baffle bass in Danny's system, and it is great. "I get it". I have also experienced servo bass in sealed setups, in my own room. I like it too. Depending on room size and placement, if you go Open Baffle it is multiples of servo drivers. And there are sealed options. Either way, if doing subs, I highly recommend servo subs. It is CLEARLY better.
I'd suggest thinking about what you like in a tweeter, and given the speaker you are coming from, that is really something to consider.
As for me... Soft Dome Tweeter, Paper Cone Woofer... and on the 7th Day, He Rested; however... for a line array speaker, or the NX series, yer gonna have to like planar magnetic tweeters (Neo 3). I am acquiring a pair of line arrays Danny developed years ago, which means planar. That will be a very different thing, and special in its own way. It will also be - In A Box.
And then, there are the new LGK Wideband driver speakers / New Record Day speakers.
You have a lot of options to agonize over, welcome to the party!
If you have time and inclination to play... you could try a 2-way kit with the Neo 3, and a kit with the T26 tweeter. 2 things - you'll hear that presentation from each... and you'll hear how good Danny's speakers sound. When you hear how good Danny's speakers sound, you will gain lot more confidence in how much you're willing to spend, and there will be zero anxiety.
That is what I did... I sampled what Danny could do, then took a much bigger bite when I had the Wilson Duette looked at. When I heard what he did with those, I knew I was on the right track. I recently sent a large sum of money for line array speakers I've never heard. I don't need to hear them, I know who designed them. I already know they are great.
If you can get to Iowa Park, check with Danny on when his new room will be ready / what he has setup to listen to. He will setup a buffet for you to sample.
It's worth the trip, for sure.
I'm pretty sure this would smoke the Wilson Watt... and this is just goofing around. What Danny did to the Duette is incredible, and I really wish more people could hear an 8" 2 way he's put his hands on.
