Actors becoming Badasses

You may have noticed that once an Actor has established himself/herself as a badass in a movie role. Any subsequent movie afterwards it can be assumed Actor is a Badass.

Example: John Travolta, known for soft roles like dancing, musicals early in his career. It wasn't until Pulp Fiction that we learn the he can be more than just a dancer.

There are many more Actors that became badass!

Actors never become badasses.  They're actors, they pretend to be characters.  Some actors were pretty rough before they started acting, but nobody was taught to be a tough guy because he had a few lessons to look good on camera.  In real life it's Mike Tyson's take, everybody's got a plan until they get hit.

The same might be said of any actor taking advantage of an opportunity to break out of a mold.  It’s easier for me to think of examples of comedians turning to dramatic roles (Robin Williams “Dead Poets Society” or Adam Sandler “Hustle”) than soft touch turned badass. It’s only then that you come to appreciate how really good an actor they are.

Action movies are more likely to become blockbuster hits, so the best actors go where the action is. Today, many A-list actors dream of being in a Marvel movie.

Denzel Washington is another example of a guy known for dramatic roles early in his career, but his last few roles have been badass. Many major male actors follow the same trajectory. And some women, too. Think Halle Berry. Last night I watched 77-year-old Glenn Close kick ass in that lame Netflix movie with Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz.

Mickey Rourke was a bad ass before becoming an actor.  Used to spar against a world welterweight champ before concussions eventually took him out of the sport.  27 amateur wins.
And who would want a part of Danny Trejo?

Taylor Sheridan's "Special Ops: Lioness" is one of his better series, maybe because Zoe Saldana is a real badass when she needs to be.

Yeah Theron is a legit badass. Performs as many of her own stunts as she can get away with and quite a few trips to the hospital as a result. She doesn't eff around.

Denzel has always been a badass and has the Oscar for Glory to prove it. I think part of this 'badass' perspective is because of the relatively recent genre of '45+yr old actor/actress reinvents image with action movies' trend that started with surprise success of 'Taken' in 2008.

Americans have always loved action movies. Seventy-five years ago, action movies were Westerns and the stars were mostly middle-aged men. In the mid-70's sci-fi movies took off. Then, the superhero movies took over.

American movie audiences have had enough of "bad-ass" women who weigh 110 lbs soaking wet beating up groups of 6 ft 220 lb men all at once.  It has gotten so bad that even though Furiosa wasn't a boss-bitch trope movie(like the latest 3 Star Wars movies) it still flopped hard.  As did The Marvels and TV shows like the Acolyte.

Are you an American? Nah, we can expect to see a lot more movies starring badass women. I'm waiting for that John Wick movie named "Ballerina" to come out in June. Speaking of John Wick, I thought the best one was when he teamed up with badass Halle Berry and she commanded those badass dogs.

Twas a well orchestrated movie formula before Taken as well. Think Mel Gibson in Payback or Denzel in Man On Fire and I'm sure countless examples even before those. That being said, I'm a sucker for those movies provided the story is well executed.

Having a friend who trains malinois, those dogs would absolutely be a real threat every bit as scary as baba yaga.  :o

Yes.  Most of the female led action/fantasy movies since 2016 have flopped hard.  You personally may want to see action movies led by a woman, Americans have shown that they don't.
The flopping started with Ghostbusters 2016.
Womder Woman was an exception.

You're getting angry about make believe.  People are free to see what they like, it doesn't make any difference to me.  The truth is that most of the action movies made led by a female character in the last 8-9 years have not made money.  Heck even Marvel and Disney have had a bunch of flops on their hands.
Audiences have tuned out.
