Isolation Transformer for XR50

I'm currently using a cheap Monster power strip with filtering on a Panasonic XR50 and like the result, now I'm interested in trying a more 'industrial' (yet relatively inexpensive) power conditioner like a second hand OneAC.

How large an isolation transformer is needed for the Panny?  The XR50 manual say it consumes 135watts but I'm guessing that's just at idle.

My second question is what kind of impact an isolation transformer might have on the electric bill?  Will a transformer rated for 120v/10amps constantly draw 1200w (120*10) from the wall even if its not used to that capacity?

While a transformer does consume a small amount of current at idle, the rating given (10 amps) is the MAXIMUM the transformer will pass.

I would suggest a transformer that can safely handle current in the 8 to 10 amp range for the SA-XR50 receiver. You will have enough capacity left over to plug in your source components.

I happen to be a big believer (and a dealer :D ) in Balanced Power Conditioners. They are more expensive than a straight isolation transformer, but they do offer greater benefits.
