Ordered a pair of Bullies
« on: 21 Dec 2024, 05:48 pm »
I think they will be arriving early January. I am very excited to join the GR-Research family. Curious if anyone else has a pair or has experienced them.

I think these speakers are going to cost me a lot more money in upgrades to my existing equipment.

Welcome!  You are starting off with a bang!

The nice thing about the GR Research designs is they sound good with just about any equipment you pair them with.

Congrats! I am very happy with the pair that I purchased and I am confident that you will feel the same. Yesterday I Roon streamed HEOS thru my Marantz, it was Christmas music and really enjoyed those 4 hrs. They are burned in and I streamed Bass Mekanik to burn in the Subs.

I bought a kit for my daughter for last Christmas. It took us most of the year to get them built because of various other things that got in the way (both for her and I), but we finally got them finished a few weeks ago. They sound pretty impressive and are a lot of fun.

She doesn't have a lot of room in her apartment to pull them out into the room, so there is only about 6" between the backs and the wall, but I was able to adjust the Rythmik amps to get them to sound pretty well balanced, and then used REW to calculate some PEQ filters to smooth out the room modes.

She has them slightly toed in on 9" stands and is using a Wiim Ultra and a pair of Fosi V3 monoblocks to drive them.

I purchased a completed pair myself in early December. I hope to have them in January. I can’t even sleep at night anticipating getting them. :D

I bought them completed in walnut veneer.

I really wish Danny would give us a time frame for the Beast. I need new speakers now but I'd much rather wait for that if the wait isn't too long. Otherwise I might just get the Bullies and be sad about not having the Beast later

There is a couple primary reasons we've been mum on the future of the Beast.

Rythmik has quietly discontinued the HX800 amp we needed for that model. (Much like the smaller HX310)
The only alternative is to order 8ohm (non-FR/OB) woofers, which means we need to commit to ordering a large quantity of drivers and develop other products specific to those units.

Second reason is that we've currently got a lot of other irons in the fire with the development of the NRD models, as well as the new additions to the NX series models.

As of right now, there is NO timeline or ETA on the Beast.

Finishing the upstairs, waiting to see the Beast before I decide on the speakers for a large room.

Well sounds like it got put on hold indefinitely. Maybe in a couple years or not. I just went ahead and got the Bullies. Hobbs said lead time is 5-6 weeks for a completed speaker unfortunately but I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

I wonder how much GR-Reasearch speaker cables would benefit it compared to Blue Jeans with banana plugs

I've had both, the GR speaker cables are much better than the Blue Jeans.

Just curious. Do the Bullies come with Sonicaps?

Thanks for your response. Can you elaborate more? What improvements did you hear and was it worth the money?

Yes, they are standard in the tweeter circuit.

soundstage, imaging and tone are all better.  If you have the $$, go for the GR’s.

Hi,

I ordered a pair of Bullies and stands about a week ago. So far, I have the drivers, no-rez, and crossover parts. Still waiting for the amplifiers and flat packs.

I hope I'm not in over my head!
