I have 3 out of 50. I'm surprised that Khruangbin - A La Sala isn't on the list, I have three of their albums. The band is very NPR. I discovered Khruangbin while listening to the low powered Downtown Radio, Tucson, 99.1 MHz FM - Downtown Radio fills a void by playing non-corporate rock 'n' roll, including local and independent artists.

Waxahatchee – Tigers Blood
Beyoncé – Cowboy Carter
Gillian Welch & David Rawlings – Woodland

There are some excellent albums on this list, my favorite being Yasmin Williams. Saw her live this year and her tapping technique on a lap guitar is breathtaking, really melodic and rhythmically creative. But that's not the only one, there are a number of fine albums here.

Me, I like to make up my own mind. Someone else's opinion is perfectly valid....for them. Maybe for me too, maybe not. Will listen to many of these, and hopefully enjoy a lot (or at least some) of them. If not, I'll won't tell anyone here. I don't want to rain on anyone's parade. I'm sure there are many here who will get a lot of enjoyment from this list.

Keep listening......and enjoying. As music is meant to be enjoyed. Which is really all that matters, isn't it? Music never makes me angry, even music that is not my cup-of-tea.....only the absence of music makes me cranky.

P.S. Additional shout-out for the Roy Hargrove, Meshell Ndegeocello, and Kim Gordon discs.

I used to have a 2-hour one-way commute for a few years about 25-30 years ago. I used to listen to books on tape and NPR among other ways to pass the time, and it was on NPR that I discovered Richard Thompson, Alanis Morisette, Ben Folds, and many other performers. Not saying that I wouldn't have found those artists anyway, but I certainly enjoyed more of their offerings back then than I hated.

The current situation is so bad what there are now are not bad songs, but various entire musical genres that are musical excrements. In the 1970s the famous Classical music critic Arthur Da Távola 1936-2008 coined the adagio:
50 million flies can’t be wrong, eat shit.

My brother in Atlanta is a big fan of Surf music and tunes in to The Furious Wave on Thursdays. He hears bands that are completely new to him.

KXCI is another local Tucson radio station, it is non-commercial, community run on donations, free form with real live DJ's that play whatever they want 24/7.
https://kxci.org/

Every Monday Bob Girth hosts "The Hub." All new music he loves. Today's show was the best albums from 2024. You will find a lot of overlap with the NPR picks. No turds here.

You can listen to any/every show anytime. The KXCI archive streams each program for 2 weeks.

Here is the best new music for 2024 picked by one DJ. Click on the link below (it's easier to read too). Listen to one song by clicking on the album cover or listen to the entire show.

Yep, I would totally listen to that list. Eclectic and all over different genres. Definitely going to tune in to that station in the future. Thanks for the recommendation!
