Has anyone tried upgrading the power cable on their DVD player, and if so how much of an improvement was it? I've just discovered that Cardas and Audioquest have replacement cables in the $90.00 range.

Hi Tweaker,

Which model cord are you talking about?? and what connector.  Some CDPs take the C7, while others take the 15amp IEC (3 pole) connector.

(as a dealer) I have used the NRG 1, NRG 1.5, NRG 3, and NRG 5 in my personal system.

The cord is the ubiquitous two prong that comes with most DVD players. The two cables I found were the NRG-1 AC Power Cable by Audioquest and the Twinlink AC DVD Power Cable made by Cardas. There are probably others.   I would like to hear if anyone has found them to be worth the money.

I’ve literally listened to thousands of dollars in cords and other wire.

Audioquest and Cardas never made it into the top 5 at any price.

Some of the best sub $100 power cables are from Harmonic Tech and Virtual Dynamics. You just can’t go wrong with their cords. I would recommend trying a Harmonic Tech AC-11. Shop Audiogon.com and buy used!

Tweaker,

The Russ Andrews IEC adaptor are the best I have found, should you decide on that route. They are shorter and provide a tighter connection. I use them with Voltex shielded 14awg PC which are of decent quality and very reasonably priced.

Problem is that shipping is high (from UK) and it is the same regarless if ordering one or five pieces. If ordering a few, it is much more reasonable.

An additional option.:)
