I recently acquired a pair of VMPS Super Tower/R SE speakers with upgraded woofers and PR's, and I am in LOVE. I'm now looking at buying a pair of older Larger subs this Sunday, but am curious about driver upgrades. So while I've used AC for a long time to find information about various pieces of audio gear, it's finally time I introduce myself so that I can join the fun and make some posts that will hopefully help me navigate this situation.
I've been into audio gear for about 10 years. Once I heard what real speakers could do, I was hooked. I began scouring the net for vintage speakers, and mostly bought ones that needed a little work. That quickly escalated, and a few years later I had a collection of projects. I've tried dozens of vintage speakers from old Advents to La Scalas and a handful of more modern designs. And when I set up the Super Towers a week ago, I knew it would now be a lot easier to sell my other favorite speakers.
I'd wanted to try VMPS speakers for years, but the timing was never right when I saw them for sale. SO glad I jumped on these. Not only do I love them, but the owner also had upgraded Infinity IRS that I got to listen to. What a day!!
My next post will be exploring driver replacement options for the old Larger subs since I want subs that can handle music and HT. I've read a lot of older threads, but since it seems that certain upgrade drivers are no longer available, I'm not sure what my best options are.
Thanks for providing this source of information everyone! It's been extremely helpful in researching VMPS before I even bought the Super Towers, and now with the subs. Looking forward to learning more.
