Ordering a BP19
« on: 12 Sep 2024, 08:42 am »
So I’ve finally made my mind up on ordering a BP19. The BP26 MM/MC/MPS2 combo has been sold, I’ve completed an all Bryston external phono setup of BP2 MM/MC 20 + PS3 power supply to compliment the Bryston BLP-1 / BTP1 turntable so I won’t need a built in phono stage.

I currently use a BP25/MPS1 from my second system as stand in preamp.

I’ve learned from a dealer that if I order a BP19 today it will take about 2 months to receive it.

Then this: in a country where Bryston has been represented over 30 years by plenty of hifi shops there simply is not one BP19 available as a demonstration unit. I think I remember one shop having one on demo earlier this year. It seems these shops prefer to invest / stock other equipment and just say ‘ we can order that unit for you if you like’ just like any dropshipping webshop.

I think at this state I would rather order though Bryston directly and pay the actual creator of the product the full price than than to co-finance a passive dealership system that is trying to presuade me to buy other product or brand.

Ok, end of rant. Let’s try to get that BP19 in before christmas.

I feel your pain on a wait period. I've just yesterday received my BP-19. I'd been on the waitlist for quite a long time for a BR-20, however I realized that since I intended to use my BDP-3 / BDA-3 combo, and have the external BP-2 phono components, I really only needed the analog-only preamp.

I did connect and listen to the BP-19 after receiving it yesterday. Even listening "cold" out of the box, my reaction is that it sounds extremely good with the active T-10 system on a variety of different music genres. It has little to none of the tonally lean presentation of some solid-state equipment, sounding "authentic" with respect to the tonality and body of acoustic instruments and voices, assuming good recordings. The BP-19 seems to combine a relaxed, and relaxing to hear, tonality with rendering of small details that took me a bit by surprise. Older classical recordings minimally miked in real halls seemed to have more of a sense of spatial depth than I've heard recently.

It seems that your wait will be rewarded in the end, if that helps at all.

Thanks for the mental support Brian. After waiting more than 7 months for a set of damaged 28B3's to arrive during Covid (and then some more weeks to have them sent back to Canada for a rebuild) I may have developed a bit of a sensitivity there..

But it's mostly 'authorized' dealers that try to talk toward buying other brands that pisses me off.

I guess they put their mouth where there money is.

Cheers, the wait is on!

Hey James. No thanks necessary - the "benefit" of having been around the industry so long is that I've seen pretty much everything. I know from your comments that the reason for the BR-20 delays haven't been of Bryston's making. I'm happy that the BP-19 went out in a reasonable amount of time, and I'm looking forward to more "structured" listening today and tomorrow. I have a couple of playlists that are intended for ease of conducting dems, these are also helpful to get a handle quickly on new system additions.

I also have a time-sensitive cable comparison to get done, which I wouldn't be doing without the new preamp in place. So all good.

Thanks Alfalfa. I'm an audiophile as well as a music lover, and I understand how it feels to wait. I also get the comment about authorized dealers who aren't supportive of a brand that they supposedly represent. This is a tough road for most manufacturers to navigate, possibly excepting the biggest names where the brand itself is enough to drive an adequate number of orders.

As you wait, feel free to ask me anything if it helps. PM is fine as well.

An interesting observation as I experienced this occurrence a couple of times when I was shopping for my current system. What sounds great for your ears may sound awful to someone else - so you know what works for yourself. I have often wondered if some dealers receive "perks" for selling a particular brand of gear when they "represent" many manufacturers.

Product supply across the spectrum these days seems to be getting worse - I remember ordering my tractor and it was a 4-5 month wait. Can't help but feel that this will also creep over into the food industry.

Anyways I wish you many happy hours enjoying your equipment - my gear has been a constant companion for 15 years now.

My goodness, where has the time gone :o

Be well...
