XS Amp Case Part 2
« on: 3 Sep 2024, 02:31 pm »
Began a 2nd all-billet case with integrated volume dial. Will install the A04 PCB and an Alps 50K potentiometer to the 7.5" volume dial as well....

Ok. I figured out the correct wiring. The A04's Vol. pot PCB is not like the A07's that I wired up. I'll get a diagram up soon if anyone else cares to upgrade their volume pot. I tested everything and I'm glad I got this little jewel up and running again on my desktop rig. Just a gorgeous sound.

I sure do like the pictures of your process. The tools and skill here are way outside what I can do, but I love the effort you're putting in to make something exciting looking! Can't wait to see more pictures of the final product!

Thank you, these 3251/55 based amps are special, just need some new aesthetics...

Small addition/update to this case. I added a ventilation port to the AO4's board case inside. More heat is being extracted and not translated to the billet housing. I also machine polished a reflective recess at the factory power LED. The red glow is soothing and reminds me to hit the power switch when groove session is over.

This is easily the most fun-looking project I've seen on this site.  I love the led port to give your amp case a little hot-rod underglow. Terrific work!

Thank you for the kind words/kudos. I'll build another all-billet case for a 3255 with PFFB soon, and wanted to make sure this one had all the bells/whistles as I listen to it almost daily. The larger/taller billet A07 case is in storage, but will come out next to machine and implement a large diameter thrust bearing to R&D for a future 9.5" OD dial :D

Could someone post a link to the Part 1 of this thread?  I did a search but can't seem to find it.  Thanks.

Possibly this thread, with custom aluminum enclosure pics appearing on page 6 of the thread?...

0.010" Oil paper bearing works a charm, but this is overkill...Smoothest dial I've turned... Machine depth leaves 0.010 gap clearance... This is the A07 case (Part 1)
