Hi guys .. After many years yesterday I decided to install an internal HDD in my BPD-3, previously formatted in exFat (I saw a video in which it said that it had to be formatted in FAT32, maybe I'm wrong, I think the video was from Chris..) I set everything up and when I turn on the BPD-3 it starts up and when it shows the message INITIALIZING…. it stays in a loop… it doesn't start up and I can't see it on the network, I constantly hear the boot microswitch (that kind of “click” it makes when starting up) continuously every few seconds…

Can someone shed some light on this? I've already written to Bryston to see what they can tell me… I appreciate any ideas.

Thx.

I cannot help you, but I don't think a hard drive is needed when you could put a hard drive to the USB ports. I have a 2 gig hard drive and two teribyte drives which is more than enough for my lifetime.  :o

I don't disagree with you, but since there is a harness and space inside the BPD for this purpose... it would save me cables and external HDs that only complicate the already saturated HiFi cabinet.

Thnx anyway friend.

You're wecomce, but my Toshiba hard drive is so thin that it conveniently fits below my turntable.

As my father would say, living and learning, and he also said, if it works, don't touch it... You touched it, you screwed up ..

you've already seen the video (for BDP-2) in which Chris shows install of fat32 formatted disk.
topic thread here: https://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=134071.0

How about taking it back out and re-formatting in fat32 or trying with another disk ?

No man, thanks for the reply, but as soon as I became aware of the problem, I tried to start it without the HD connected, and the problem persists .. INITIALIZING … permanent, in loop … It doesn't start or exit from there … Thanks anyway

I think it may be the main board.  Please email Adam - atanner@bryston.com

I have opened a ticket and I am in contact with him, because of what I have received so far, and as Churchill would say “for the second time in our lives” , I am forced to send the BDP-3 back to the technical service for repair, the first was a complete change of the digital output board.

Thnx James.

Finally, even though Adam has tried, he has not been able to help me, I need technical service...

He said don't know what happened - but it looks like either the Motherboard has an issue or the Mini SATA card that contains the firmware is bad..
As I told you, I don't understand how the simple gesture of installing an internal HD can cause such a catastrophe...

Damn device.. :x

After this, I think I will definitely remove the BDP-3 from my system…

One tiny jab of static electricity is all it takes to wipe out a board.
