I think one of the reasons you're not finding much feedback on this is because it's difficult to do this and get good sound - at least in my experience. An acquaintance has a pair of these Li Lang(sp?) drivers mounted on plywood. It's up at a warehouse / man cave. They run it with a few hundred dollar tube amp of a few watts. They marvel at the sound of "just a few watts". I have heard these... I don't have the heart to tell them how bad it sounds. I know they don't have a frame of reference for it... which I suspect is often the issue with much of this. Eventually I will have them over to hear my rig, which has gotten exponentially better over the last year.
Tweeters are made for high frequencies... woofers low frequencies... "the proper tool for the job" is an important thing - if you want it done well. You can make sound with "simple OB speaker", but it might not make you happy, depending on your frame of reference and the level of performance you want.
I'll be as polite as I can, but this picture below... the speaker pictured here is absolute junk; however, the "Stupider" beer is actually very tasty... my buddies also brew beer up there and got the recipe for Pliny The Elder from Ballast Point Brewery. It's the best IPA I've ever tasted.
Danny's speakers are the best I've ever heard. If I ever find something better, I'll use those...if I can afford them. Based on what I've heard, especially over the last year, you don't have to spend as much as you think to have great sound.
