I have a really nice McIntosh THX subwoofer, model HT-2.
It's a monster subwoofer with 2 heavy-duty LD/HP 12" down-firing woofers. Just under 100 lbs., but surprisingly small visually. Put two plants on it and call it a day. It is a passive subwoofer - meaning it does NOT have an amplifier, and can't directly plug into a home theater receiver. I do have an amplifier that would work well with it - I can include it for an additional $120. It's an NHT A1 amplifier - it's an excellent amplifier although if you have an enormous room then you could consider more power. Definitely local pickup only! Photos aren't mine, but it looks the same.
