You do not need a separate amplifier or receiver, only a line level signal source. I used only my Sim Audio Moon preamp/dac/streamer and they sound fantastic.

Sorry for tardy reply.  We sold our home in Portlandia and moving to new home.  I have inwall speakers at new place.  These Elacs sound really fantastic and make a super simple system with a small footprint. I had my SimAudio MOON 390 as the signal source and controls.
