My Stereo Is Wackier Than Yours!!!

This is possibly the wackiest system on earth!

I’m using a Sharp SD-EX111 as a Tuner / CD / Pre-Amp whose headphone output is driving a Teac AL-700P digital amp and an Adcom GFA-535 analog amp.  The amplifiers are driving professional speaker drivers (Eminence and Lambda Acoustics) which are mounted in home style cabinets.

This wacked-out combination of inexpensive components is some of the finest playback I’ve heard and I’ve had some audiophool approved systems in this very same room.

Pics are in the gallery, on page 39, under the title: My Wacky System

Is your system as wacky as mine?

My system is pretty unorthodox. Here's a picture:

It's the following:

samsung 841 dvd player (soon to be upgraded) ->
digital coax by red wine audio ->
battery powered scott nixon DacKit w/ black gates->
diy interconnects (fine silver in braided teflon tubing w/ Eichmanns) ->
Clari-T amp w/ black gates & stepped attenuator by red wine audio ->
Bastanis silver plated copper speaker cables ->
Bastanis Prometheus full-range speakers

It certainly looks strange, but I prefer the sound to just about anything I've heard - regardless of price. I don't see myself ever going back to speakers in ported boxes, traditional crossovers, tubes, or a/c power.

The Sharp is da bomb. It replaced about $5k worth of gear (Rega Jupiter/BAT pre/ heavily modded pro amp combo) here at component central. Now all I've got is the Sharp, some Spelz anticables and my Paradox 3s. For about an $1100.00 investment, the sound is WAY whacked. Interesting wall treatment there Gary-it looks kind of wacky... :hyper:

Nothing so interesting, just a poor attempt at a DIY projector screen and on the left is some former resident's attempt (I think) at covering some water damage. I move in to a new house next week, there I'll have acoustic treatment on the wall with blackout fabric over it to let it double as a screen.

Hey Gary,
One of these trips down to St Louis, you'll need to come by and we can do some listening.

I used a 2 or 3 watt Magnavox 6BQ5-based SE console amp from '62 to power my system until my 300B SET arrived from Hong Kong. With my 6SN7 SRPP line stage pre controling my then AMC CD8b CD player (now sold) through my 98.5dB '79 Klipsch Cornwalls, it sounded damn good for a 42 year old amplifier (had been updated from its previous owner). If I hadn't already ordered my SET amp, I would've had it completely modified and a nice mahogany cabinet built around it.
