Cheap Speakers...

Mention of the new "affordable-line" of product from Odyssey here: http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=1890&highlight=, led me to the show coverage at www.soundstagelive.com.

This page http://www.shows.soundstagelive.com/shows/avtour2003/mtl_dly_march28.shtml has a picture of the StudioLab Reference One, "soon to be reviewed on Soundstage!, StudioLab's tall, thin Reference One ($1000/pair, premium finish extra) looked great in deep blue livery."

Wasn't aware of StudioLab previously, so found them at www.speakerdirect.com and browsed around..

Read the review of this speaker at Audio Ideas which had some great praise for them...

Plenty of speakers in this price range with good reviews, so what caught my eye?

When I realized that all the prices were in Canadian, and thus significantly cheaper than what I thought was in US dollars.

Outside of the reference series, the Digital and dB series looks like you could put together a serious home theater setup on the cheap -- cheap little sattelites, full rangers, and cheap subwoofers.  Image series looked good as well.

A lot of Audax and Vifa usage it looks like.

Just figured I'd throw another product out there.

Second item.  Looks like Peter has split the Acoustic Reality (www.acoustic-reality.com) product line in two, not just in one model of EAR2 amplifier and another cheaper one.  Looks like he's done it for all his products, and included a lot of amplifiers with multiple channels for biamping, home theater, etc.

You can look for yourself if you have interest, but the one thing I wanted to mention is that he has a Scan Speak Kit for 559 euro available that's a 2-way sealed box, -3db ~35hz, 6.75" bass driver, with Peter's series crossover, no capacitor.

No cabinets -- kit includes the SS drivers, gaskets, wires, screws, crossover w/foil coils, connector playes and a cabinet drawing.

Just figured I'd mention in case someone out there is looking for another new project.....
