626r's

I just wanted to make a quick post to say how much I have enjoyed my new purchase from VMPS.  I ordered a pair of vmps 626r's with all the fillings, minus the tnt's which I substituted for auricaps.  They are piano black in color.  I reallly don't have a ton of refrence, but these are the most incredible sounding speakers I have ever heard.  My room is quite small at the moment, and the ultimate plan is to send these to the rear.  But regardless, I have never in all my life thought that music and sound could sound like it does out of these speakers.  I have been recording live music for about 6 years as a hobby, and that is what I use as refrence because well, that's what I like.  I connected my fostex fr-2 field recorder to my bolder modified panasonic xr-45.  It is all accoustic type bluegrass music.  Needless to say, the top end of the banjo, acoustic guitar, and mandolin revealed detail I never even thought was possible.  I was honestly taken back to the same time and moment that was two weeks ago.  I felt like I was there, and that my friends is the greatest comliment I can muster when it comes to live recording.   I bought these on a whim, listening to Wayne at Bolder tell me how good these things were, and sight unseen, forked over the check and hoped for the best.  Anyway, this has been the greatest audio experience of all time, and I just wanted to thank Wayne and Brain personally and publically.  I look forward and reccomend working with them in the future.

As soon as I move, the 626r's are moving to the rear, and the order for the elixir's is being placed :D

Finally, my system is modest, but:

Fostex fr-2 field recorder, canare aes transformer
Toshiba self hot-rodded with blackgates 4960
Bolder HT mod with dual bybee's Panasonic XR-45
Bolder Cryo Nitro speaker cables
Cryotweaks digi cable
VMPS 626r's with soundcoat, auricaps, megawoofers, black paino etc.
BPT 1.5
some isolation for components and cork pads under speakers
on stands 24" high
And finally, all plugged into BPT 1.5 with litz wiring and some other kind of shielding!

Regards and thanks

I want to second Daryan's sentiments in regard to both the 626R speakers and Wayne from Bolder Cable.

I bought my pair through Wayne about a month ago with the FST and Auric caps upgrades and MLS Macassar ebony cabinets.  The first impression on opening the boxes was WOW :o.  The ebony cabinets are gorgeous and of very high quality.  The veneers are bookmatched from one speaker to the other, meaning that the grain pattern is a mirror image from one to the other--not only on the front and sides, but the top as well.  This indicates that the cabinets were assembled as a pair from the get-go.  The finish is also silky smooth and flawless.

As Daryan mentioned, the level of detail is incredible--perhaps even a bit too much on poorly recorded material.  I've got the L-pads set at about 12:30 for now as they break in, and may tweak them in a couple more weeks.  I've got some room treatments in mind that I'd like to get in place before then.

It's been nothing but fun pulling out one LP, CD, or tape after another and getting a whole new perspective on the music.  I should mention that I'm using Van Alstine's top-drawer T7 ECR preamp and 550 EXR amp, which are also a complete delight.  Other gear is a Rega P3 TT (w/ Denon 103R), AcousTech PH-1 phono stage, Tascam 122 mkIII cassette deck, Tascam RW402 CD recorder, Pioneer DVD/SACD/DVD-A player, Monarchy 18b DAC, and Sansui TU-717 tuner.  The speakers are paired with an Adire Rava sub.

So far, the bass has seemed to firm up somewhat as the speakers break in, but I'm not really sure what else to expect after a couple hundred hours are racked up--any thoughts from other owners?

To sum up, the speakers have met all my expectations and then some, and customer service has been top-notch from both Wayne and Big B.  I'd recommend that anyone in the Denver area who is thinking of VMPS speakers give Wayne a call.

The only problem that I have now is that my direct tv connection to my dvr sounds dreadful and is driving me nuts.  To tinker or not to tinker with it, has anyone tried something that would make it sound better?  The compressed hiss that I can NOW hear drives me crazy!

Thanks again Wayne and Big B.
