I find it kind of odd the way the moderators there close threads when someone complains too strongly about a manufacturer.

I have given up on their forums. After over a dozen posts they were still delaying all my contributions for moderator review. I didn't think I said anything controversial. If someone complains about your posts they would still have the option to delete it or close the thread down, so why the constant big brother act? Too anal for me.

About a month ago somebody provided some info and contacts for free replacement of faulty CD's (some big name classical houses) suffering from an acknowedged seperation of the binder/layers.  The thread was closed immediately and then, I presume, removed shortly thereafter.  At least, I couldn't find it again a week later...

I still visit and sometimes post on the music threads.

i used to post there a lot, a coupla years back.  then, they started censoring posts, & closing threads that were even a little bit unfavorable to their commercial supporting interests.  before i finally stopped participating there regularly, i was once booted, when i asked what they were doing about a complaint directed towards a notoriously obnoxious commercial re-seller (who, suspiciously, has little if any negative feedback).  they re-instated me when the agon community complained.  but it dint help; i still stopped participating over there.

their forums are abolutely worthless, imo - any dissenting views there are *not* tolerated.  now, the only time i will ever post there - and it is quite rare - is when someone forwards to me a thread about tuna, which everyone knows is so near & dear to my heart!     but, even then, i am sceptical - they once closed a thread that was not flattering to don scott, a tuna modder & former s'phile contributor.  seems he took offense to my complaint, werified by others, that he mods tuna w/o using the proper testing equipment to match filters, etc...

I read it every day and post often.

They delay EVERY note for moderator approval, something I don't like, and occasionally, one of mine won't get in.  E.g., the referenced thread would have contained a comment of mine even-more negative than the one that made it in.  I think the moderator(s) are just scared of being threatened by someone being dissed.

Every once in a while I actually learn something.  :-)

the moderators are afraid of one thing & *only* one thing - offending their commercial accounts.   :finger:

There's a current thread in misc audio regarding the new feedback system. The A'gon thought police never posted my thoughts.

A very, very watered down group of forums, however there is some fairly decent discussions at times.

However, do not expect much if you do not fit in with the status quo.

Best,

I have been censored when I questioned the validity of a pack of Audiogoners or other commercial interests vouching for the DK Design integrated, when it was barely coming out.  The most interesting thing was to find members who were sent the integrated, whose later systems you see, and the member, if he thought the integrated was the newest Holy Grail, had a different brand of equipment.  I guess the DK integrated was not too hot.

Furthermore, when I saw someone posting products from different locations, such as Spain, HK, Morocco, and wondered how that was possible, they simply sent me an email stating that the member was an oustanding Audiogoner.

Their heavily sensoring the site is making it simply into a buy/sell exchange, something that it once was, until people began to post heavily there.  Today, the posts are worthless, especially due to their censoring tactics.

Check the latest post that they "closed."  Closed was never something they ever did.

So what's the point of the Agone forums then?  Is the status quo there everyone gets along and dissenters get their posts deleted because the site is so dependent on commercial accounts ? That seems to me like a pretty lame excuse for having a moderated forum

I see the thread they closed is political in nature. Something our own AudioCircle has done as well. Perhaps a not altogether bad idea. Political threads can get really ugly and destroy a smoothly working environment. The world's a mess because people can't agree - and we're talking death and destruction here, not just knitted brows.

However, the constant moderation and interference in threads  at Audiogon makes it useless as a forum IMHO. How can you have any sort of discussion when your post doesn't show up until after you've gone to bed?

And now they've gone and messed with the feedback system. If I leave feedback for someone, Audiogon now asks them if they object to it before posting. Well HELLO! If they are trying to cheat me, are they going to agree to my feedback?

that thread certainly *does* put things into perspective.  there have been similar threads here, tho not quite as drawn out or graphic.

but, that's no excuse for audiogon's blatant sucking up to its commercial interests in its forums, & i don't like participating there, due to that fact...

I read and post to the AudiogoN forums more often than any other forum. It is probably a simple matter of convenience for me since I am on AudiogoN daily checking for "deals" that I simply can't refuse! AudiogoN is THE site for buying and selling audio equipment, so I'm there often.

I do post there and have only been "declined" once in 6 years. Of course they have to moderate closer than this site as they are there as a commecial business.

I do agree that some vendors are given special consideration considering their reputation (Hello, I know which dealer you mean). This particular "dealer relationship" is my biggest beef with AudiogoN, however I had a couple of successful deals with that dealer before I found out (from a friend that was "abused")) what an A$$ he can be to people that enquire about his items.

I like AudioCircle for what it is, I like AVSforum for what it is and I like AudiogoN for what it is. They just have different priorities and that's OK with me.

Enjoy,

TIC

s'ok w/me, too.  which is why i only use that site for buying/selling.  for discussion, *my* priorities are honesty, & ethical discourse.  that rules a-gon out.

My posts used to go up instantly, without waiting for moderator approval.

Until one day I questioned the value of pebbles sold in jars, for $89 a jar. As I recall, the add claimed something like 50% improvement to sound...

Well, they started screening all my posts after that, then deleted the thread.

Think of it as a shopping mall, sanitized for the sellers' protection.

PS. The thread in originally mentioned by eric is now gone. My guess is that it dealt with a certain pre-amp manufacture who continuously lies to his customers.

Oh yea, and we know who that is, don't we!  This guy lies to and otherwise abuses his customers so well, they voluntarily come back for more while they're defending him to the world.

I have been on the Digital forum at a'gon for the past few months since I am upgrading my digital front end (I have a Marantz SA-14 being modded by TRL right now) and needed to do some research.  What I like about a'gon forums is they are easy to read.  Audioasylum is a cluttered mess (visually) and there isn't as much activity on the Digital boards.

I am annoyed that posts don't get posted immediately.  And, several of my posts wherein I mentioned the websites of particular vendors did not make it through at all...
