Welcome Hank!
Folks are finally realizing that the room plus speakers make the biggest impact in home audio reproduction. Suggest reading Floyd Toole's "Sound Reproduction" (either edition) to learn about the room. 21st century loudspeakers are all about active designs (low voltage/sophisticated crossovers feeding mono-block amps - one per driver). Consumer versions include other features such as wireless connections, room EQ, and various tunings. Some, like Buchardt and Dutch & Dutch include cardioid loading and waveguide tweeters. Hop on over to the current thread "Intellectual People Podcast" to read about the Dutch & Dutch 8C, possibly the world's best active monitor. I own Buchardt A500SE, a similar but cheaper design.
21st century sourcing is all about internet streaming.
