Bob,

Have you ever considered active monitors?  I've owned 3 pairs.  The Dynaudio BM5 Mk3 were nice, the JBL 708P were all around the best loudspeakers I've ever owned, and the Buchardt A500SE the most sophisticated.  The last two I'd consider forever speakers.  Active design is vastly superior to passive.  More dynamic, better resolution.  No power amps or speaker cables needed.  My Buchardt, like many of the newer consumer actives are wireless and include tunings in their low voltage crossover.  It's hub actually includes a nice room EQ application.  And they're rated 25-40,000 Hz +/- 1.5 dB.
