Does your Bryston sound better....

...if you let it turned on all the time?

I have made the experience that my B60 sounds better after one day. And even better after two or three days.

Do you have similar experiences or is this all imagination?
James, what does Bryston think?

HI,

Bryston engineers can not measure any difference but I think it takes 3 days.
Don't rat me out on this - I need the job.

James - it was either a conversation we had back in the 80's or it might have even been published in a brochure at that time but 3 days was a number quoted. If it was a conversation one cannot accuse you of wavering keeping the same quote for almost 20 years!

If memory serves me right the brochure likened the power consumption under idle as the same as a 100 watt light bulb for the 3B I owned at that time. Not sure my current 14B-SST would be so forgiving..

I do have this same experience, with both my 3BST and my 3BSST, more with the 3BST.  I don't know what to think about it, because it is hard to seee an engineering explanation.

Anything after a hour or so, shouldn't make an audible difference. A few seconds after power On, the caps are as charged as they are going to get and the coils have their fields established, and the only thing changing is the temperature. After an hour, that's stable, too.

If you're convinced you hear a difference, check to see if the heat of keeping it on has affected cable attachment. A not quite tight cable can make a difference in the amp's belief about the speaker load - and that can change things.

On the other hand, if you think it sounds better on all the time, leave it on. Even if it's all in your head, that counts. :-)

Me, I turn stuff off when it isn't in use: it makes for one less component that's going to get slapped around by summer lightning storms.

I've had my 4B NRB turned on for the last 11 years straight.
That makes it sound better than a new 4B SST.
