Battery Tuner - my next proposal to Vinnie
« on: 28 Apr 2005, 08:11 pm »
I was driving downtown today and listened to FM radio between stop signs.  The classical channel was playing an orchestral piece, and I couldn't help but tapping along with the tympanies and other instruments when they moved towards the finale.  The powerful music relieved me from the daily hassles, lifting my soul, enriching it with "fresh air" tunes.   And I thought, I will ask Vinnie, after completing his battery transport project, to find out if a battery tuner would be feasible to make.  There are so many great tunes on the classical channel alone that I don't want to miss.  And imagne you could dial in a live jazz or blues session in the night time, sharing the listening wiht many others at the same moments, living the live performance right in your room.

You read my mind!...  I have had similar thoughts about adding a tuner to my system.  Actually I was considering buying a Henry Kloss Tivoli radio, and soliciting Vinnie to see if he would be interested in tinkering with it.

So Vinnie... could you be persuaded?

Hi Paul and MarcD,

Sure, why not?  8)

MarcD, if you send me the Tivoli, I'd love to take a look inside and see what can be done.  Do these have L/R RCA output jacks?  I heard the built-in tuner is decent.  I *think* they also run off of 12V, but I need to check into that...

Sleep, I don't need no stinkin' sleep!     BRING IT ON!  :P

They have a Martha Stewart Living version as well.

You could have a Martha Stewart-under-house-arrest-on-Red-Wine version :!:

I'd never consider hacking my TU-717, but the T-60 and T-80 are fair game!  I even picked up a service manual for them with batteries in mind... with what looks like at least 3 stepdown transformers, it's way beyond my very humble abilities.  Care for a look Vinnie?  The cool thing about the T-60/T-80's is that, if convertable, one can pick them up for $20 to $50 and they are very nice tuners!!!

Hi Gordy,

Sure, send me over a copy of the service manual (schematics).  The weather is getting nice and I'd like to do some outdoor reading

Thanks,

Gordy

Hi borelek,

Wow, you really dug this one up from over a year ago!  :o

I know I can mod Gordy's T-60 (based on the schematics he sent me) for 12V SLA power.

Gordy, what happened with this?   :?

The Tivoli iPal can also be used as a decent tuner and can run off of 12V SLA battery.  It has a stereo ouput.  I already did this for one customer a while back and it worked out fine...

I bought a 'Pure Tempus-1' here in the UK - it doesn't have FM, only our dodgy Digital broadcasts but it runs on a 12 volt wall wart so is a candidate for battery power.

It also has- a built in single 3" speaker which occupies half the case and
Toslink digital out....

I thought there may be room for a Clari-T board and a nos dac in there if we ripped the speaker out.

Who needs a battery powered tuner if you can have a one box receiver :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Right after the Olive Vinnie     Also my 717 needs an alignment so I'm using the T-60 daily... the T-80 is on semi permanent loan  :?

I had the idea to ask you if you can modify a Tivoli so I made a search and found this topic ...
... but I give up. A

Tivoli iPal ... as a decent tuner

...is not enough in this context.
Thanks for your answer.
