PS-3 for BP-25?
« on: 11 Aug 2023, 03:26 pm »
Hello James,

Is it possible to use the PS-3 power supply with the BP-25 preamp and, if so, whether I could expect any performance improvement over the MPS-1 power supply.

Thank you for considering my enquiry.

Joel.

After a week, no response from Mike Pickett.
I guess he's swamped with e-mails after returning from holidays. . .

As far as I know it's possible (PS-3 is a single implementation of the MPS-2)??

That's just what I'd like to confirm. I've also heard that the MPS-2 was just three MPS-1 in a standard-size chassis to enable powering multiple Bryston components...

Ideally, I'd like to hear from someone who has actually compared the performance of the preamp with the MPS-1 and, assuming it's compatible, with the PS-3.

I've always read that the MPS-2 was an upgrade from the MPS-1. I don't believe the MPS-2 is 3 X MPS-1.

Hi Folks - the MPS-2 was designed to handle multiple Bryston products but that never materialized in the market.

So it has a huge transformer/power supply relative to the smaller previous units.

The new PS-3 power supply is the latest unit we now offer.

Would also like to ask Mike Pickett whether black faceplates are available for the BDA-3 and if so, at what cost, and whether the "switch" requires a technician to do the work or whether an unskilled listener such as myself could swap in a black faceplate for the original silver one.

Hope Mike is able to respond to e-mails soon!

Yes, about ten days ago. At that time, got an "on holidays" automated reply.

For those who may be wondering, according to Mike Pickett, for the BP25 with MPS-1 power supply, there would be no sonic advantage in substituting the PS-3 power supply.

Though there would, of course, be benefit in upgrading the original AC power supply used with the BP25 to either an MPS-1 or a PS-3.
