I don't usually watch youtube reviews. But when I was it was less than 3 minutes, what the heck. It was entertaining.

That’s enthusiasm alright.  But it makes me remember an early experience with a B60 - an early version, lightly used.  I was taken aback by how good it was; with my then new-ish Harbeth P3ES-2s.  That must have been close to 15 years ago.  Should have bought the B60 when I had the chance.  Might have spared me a lot of restless lateral moves….

Second time around, sold off my 1st B60R almost 10 years ago after I got my BHA1 and couldn't resist this one when it came up and just received it today.
Same as my 1st but a year younger, 2002, so also with the updated output components. Planning on splitting its duties between headphone use and powering some surrounds, making my life better. : )

And with all my other phones able to go balanced, the AKG K872 single handily get first dibs on the B60R.

A lucky find!

They come up fairly often....but yes, still a lucky find. Thanks

There was a update to the output devices prior to the SST designation but AFAIK the  last updates were in 2002 and only cosmetic changes after that......

Some actually prefer the pre SST output devices though.

I had two B60s at one point. Sold one to fund a B100 purchase. No regrets, would do it again if the opportunity presents itself.  I didn't do it for the extra power, the Main-in Pre-out and Tape Monitor functions are retained in the B100, and you get full remote capability.   :thumb:

I would too, if I wasn’t awaiting delivery of a new B135 cubed….

B60 will give B135 a run for its money at lower volume levels and/or with higher efficiency speakers, make no mistake about that.

I am surprised and somewhat disappointed Bryston discontinued it. From a manufacturing standpoint, it makes perfect sense – like the BP6, it required manual labour work because of its more traditional through-hole approach as opposed to using SMT. From an audiophile standpoint, it’s a minor disaster.

Cheers,
Antun

Hi Autun

The problem from a business standpoint is the B60 was never a good seller and the last 3 years did not sell at all.
I think it was too expensive for what people expect for 60 watts.
Eventually the lack of sales wins the race.

Hi James!

Thanks for the disclosure – I can definitely understand that it didn’t sell well as very few will see value in a 60-Watt amplifier that costs that much, despite the fact those 60 Watts are probably the finest in the world. It takes a special person to appreciate it and sadly, you can’t make a living of those select few.

I think people forget that the difference between a 60 and a 120 watt amp is 3db. Ergo another 120 watts i.e 240 watts will only be 6db louder than the 60 watt amp you started with. I can just hear the difference that 3db makes.

All depends on the music and playing preferences... and as nice as the B60 or even my 3BSST2 are they will both easily clip (although not really audible) on dynamic orchestral peaks if playing loud but not too loud and that is driving my Dynaudio 25s (4ohms 88dBs sensitivity.)....should add that I could never get my previous 4BSST to light up, ever. : ). So much for downsizing. : (

...... my 1st B60R almost 10 years ago .......

Here my 1st with the updated C series face-plate...not too sure if I actually prefer the sleeker look of the earlier models or the updated look. The original is also easier to dust. : )

Hi Guys,

I remember way back in the day I think 1980s and Bryston popping up in Australia but unfortunately I could never afford one of their products. They sure have gone on to be a really high end reliable product to purchase.
