Well, you could always use TWO F10s like I am doing now. More headroom, more bloom, more testicular capacity, yet still retaining all of the magic qualities of the little F10 giant killer. When biamping, there is nothing between the F10 output stage and the planer drivers.

I also took my F10 to a local Maggie dealer and briefly drove the Maggie 3.6QR with it. At low to moderate volumes, the dealer was very privately impressed.

Now someone please stop me from even THINKING of using four JVC F10s to drive my Maggie 1,6QRs!

Sorry if this has been covered, but when the 5.1 DVD input is selected, is any processing applied, or is it straight to the amps?
Also, are settings lost when cutting power completely with a power strip?
Really digging this so far, although I've only used it for DD/DTS to this point. Functional and intuitive.

Had a long listening session last night now that I've used it for a bit. Really nice, noticeably better than my old Onkyo 575x via MC inputs. One obvious improvement is in the bass, much better with the JVC. I use the "Large" setting all around, and it really impresses. Vocals are surprizing, also, with much of that palpable quality you get from tubes.

Question: with DD, it recognizes the signal but defaults to 2.1, I have to manually switch for 5.1. What am I doing?

The JVC is great isn't it. If you get a chance you should bring the JVC into Audioconnection in Verona and let John Rutan have a listen. He's always open to listening to new products and technology.

Funny you should mention him, I was hanging out there last week and John was playing me one of the new Audio Research Class T mono amps on Vandersteen 2Ce's. Nice, don't know if it's Tripath or what, but it didn't really sound solid-statish. Maybe I'll lug the JVC over one day.
The vocals on the JVC remind me of what I used to hear with the Quicksilver EL-34 mono's I had years ago on Spica TC-60's. Especially minimally-processed stuff, like the "Captain" track from "The Sopranos" SACD.

The Audio Research maybe tripath based. I think there is a review on the Soundstage.com website. John has quicksilver mono's available to audition in his storefront show room. You can compare the JVC to the Quicksilver's.

Last year I purchased a Rotel Ra1062 integrated amp from him for $700. I sold it for the JVC rxes1sl receiver I'm using now.

I agree, the midrange on these receivers are first rate.

Another thing that strikes me is the clean but extended highs. I've got this Chesky demo DVD-A (Amazing surround show or something) and there's a track of chimes which is spooky in its clarity. Close-up vocals,which can sound spitty or lispy, sound very natural but not rolled-off.

Recently hooked up a Denon DVD-2900 universal player I purchased used. Wow, I can't believe how good the JVC sounds with such a magnificent source. Dynamics, extension...it's all there. It seems to reveal every bit of improvement the Denon brings over the cheaper Sony (SACD) and Oppo (DVD-A) I had been relying on for audio.

It's a pretty remarkably cheapo receiver...with every system tweek and upgrade here, it keeps proving itself to be a worthy system component to the others. Mine's bone stock - except for replacement of captive power cord with an LAT International AC-2 (didn't hear a whit of difference) and treated every internal butt & harness connector and fuse with Mapleshade silver bearing grease (a bit of a rise in perceived clarity with this).

The biggest 'tweek' to it, one that is absolutely important in wringing the last bits of performance from this overachiever, is power conditioning. JVC went cheap on this part....there is no worthwhile internal EMI/RFI filtration, compounded with it's inherent clarity, it makes for a receiver that begs for good power conditioning.

I'm using an Adcom ACE-515 conditioner I've had since the late 80's...maybe I'll look into something more ambitious? With the Denon and JVC's inherent low noise and high resolution, the thing that's starting to bug me a bit is the fan noise of the JVC. I tihnk I'll have to move it, it's only a few feet from me.

The Enacom AC Noise Killer (or something liek that its called) works - for only $85 at AMusicDirect.com. UHF Mag,a Montrealer Canadian publication not widely available in US, swears by that little device. Blue Cirlce sells something prettier for a bit more.

The AudioPrism QuietLines work, too, and Radio Shack used to offer units like the QuietLines for less money...it wasn't in their audio or video dept, it was in their video surveillence area in their old catalog from 2002 or so.

They all work about the same...filtering out EMI-RFI before it reaches your hi-fi gear.

I've been using this Belkin AV Isolator with great results.

BTW I found some excellent speaker wire connectors for the spring clips that accept 10 to 16 gauge wire. They come packaged w/ 4 pairs plus screwdriver, made by RCA. I bought mine at Home Depot

for $9.97.

Good one...Parts Express has a 4 pack of nice ones for $6.97 or something....and it accomodates 6ga THHN wire.

Although it indicates up to to 8ga, it handles 6ga...it may even handle 4ga
