Money well spent.

Got the D2A2 hooked up last night and let 'er rip. The improvement over the Cal Gamma is nothing short of breathtaking. The thing is I either need to upgrade the caps in it with some modern Panasonic FC caps and install some film caps at the outputs or I need to upgrade my CD collection. Most CDs I played sounded harsh on the highs. It is either poor sound engineering or the cheap caps used for the output caps on the DAC. Things did smooth out a bit after letting it play for a couple of hours though. I need to find a schematic for the D2A2. Scott? :D  :D I am really splitting hairs here though. A very nice piece. It's kind of funny. When I was in my twenties ( longer ago than you might think) i dreamed of owning equipment from Aragon and Proceed.......etc. Now here I am at 39 and I buy a Aragon DAC for $250 and it is considered outdated and wanting. Funny how things change huh?

I don't have the schematic on that one. Best bet would be Thom P or John at Musical Design. Hey, got one for the Sigma?    This thing has some serious potential. Mark came by for a little bit today and brought it by. Needless to say, he didn't leave with it    I'm thinking sorta like you are, a few Black Gates in the power supply, a bypass or two, maybe some of Chris VenHaus' IOMP's as the coupling caps, maybe piggyback the DAC, swap the opamps and then a nifty resistor or two and then this thing will keep up with most anything on the market.

I would have liked to get the Sigma but I was concerned about the output impedance of the 12AX7 at the output. It would have been working into a fairly low load in my system. I think part of the problem in my system is the 12au7s in my pre. I will be changing it to use 12BH7s when the new resistors from MP get here. I am also working on a new pre based on the ECC99, E182CC, 7044, 5687 family of tubes using current sources, dual choked PSU with a 5AR4 for a rectifier. The 5AR4 is overkill but they are the best sounding rectifiers out there so............ I found a very good way to make use of 12B4As in a DAC output stage if you are interested scott.  If you know the guys Musical Design could you ask them if they have a schematic for the D2A2 Scott? Pretty please with chocolate on top??!! :D
