Hi Gents,

Been a long long time since I had a TT setup.

I have a 3009 series iii arm, but don't know if it is an earlier or later version. The headshell of mine has more holes vs another iii and headshell I recently saw. Will this identify the earlier vs later version?

Also, I see that the earlier uses 60 mm vs the later which uses 66 mm and 121 mm setting protractor.

Enjoy the Music has one that is 70 mm and 127 mm. Is the mm very critical? I am mounting a cartridge on an STD turntable, sme series iii arm.

The SME 3009 Series III is a low mass tone arm that is a different size than the earlier 3009 versions.  These are titanium arm tubes, so very light mass.  No parts exist for repairs from my research when I bought my used arm.

Wally Tools made a protractor for that specific arm for me and I believe they still make something compatible.

So check the original manual for correct size for the protractor you use.

Here are two sites for free custom arc protractors.  I've only used the Conrad Hoffman site, which is excellent.  I recommend a test print on regular paper to check that your printer settings are correct 1:1 printing etc.  Then use high grade photo paper for the protractor that you'll actually use.  To make a perfectly aligned center punch use an exacto blade to make an X cut in the circle then push the wings out using the turntable spindle.  I'll never use a different protractor.
