Bryston 3B3 & 4B3 power supply sizes ?
« on: 20 Feb 2023, 08:57 pm »
Hello, I read an article written by George Sallit (Jan 2022) which claims the power supply of a 4B cubed is twice the size of a 3B cubed. Can anybody verify this to be true ? The math does not make sense; you would expect the 4B cubed to have a 50% larger power supply. You are comparing 300 Watts per channel (8 ohms) vs. 200 Watts per channel (8 ohms).
Thanks,

Thanks James,
As for Class A & Class A/B....how high do these 2 amplifiers go before switching to Class A/B ?

Is it the same 5% for the B135 cubed?

Should be close.
There is nothing magical about Class A.

I think you are confusing power supply size with output device power.  When they say power supply size they are talking about the rating on the mains transformer which is in kVA and the capacitor banks which are in microfarads.  Nothing to do with Watts on the output stage!

I have never seen these numbers published by Bryston and whenever I ask nobody knows.  Other manufacturers like Classe and Sim Audio used to tout these numbers.
