Hello from Washington state
« on: 9 Feb 2023, 05:50 pm »
Hi I recently got interested in vinyl, tube amps, learning how to take care of vinyl, and hopefully learning how to acquire proper, high-impedance speakers. There is so much to learn! I just realized last night that my cheap speakers are not so good, and now I want to learn about DIY speaker kits. Every time I start to hope that the audio journey is coming to an end, I realize that no, it's just beginning. lol.

The journey down the long dark rabbit hole is quite enjoyable. Plenty of us here can attest to that. Not sure what part of the state you're from, but I'm in Vancouver and there are a few others just over in Portland and others up in Seattle area. Plenty of diy info to sink your teeth into on this site.

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

Welcome!

Be careful with DIY loudspeakers.  Proud papa syndrome is very real.  And in most cases you can't audition beforehand.  Kits are a better option, yet active monitors (low voltage crossover feeding one channel of amplification per driver) are better (bass output for given cabinet size, greater dynamics/detail, and the possibility of room correction DSP, and/or built-in DAC's).  Resale for DIY is a killer.  No speaker cable or trying to match to amps with active monitors.
