I have an Emotiva TA1, Class A/B 60 watts per channel at 8 Ohms, and at times the LGK 2.0's are clipping when playing loud.
Thinking about connecting a Schiit Vidar 2 or Aegir to the Emotiva TA1 preamp output.
The Schiit Vidar 2 is a class A/B amp (8 Ohms 100 watts per channel) and the Aegir is a class A amp at 8Ohms 20 watts per channel.
Not sure for LGK 2.0's or Encore XLS speakers which of those two Schiit amps are the best fit?
Thank you for any information or advice.
If you're going to play the LGK 2.0s loud, you really need to put an high-pass filter on them around the 80-120 Hz range, and cross them over to a subwoofer. That will take all of the bottom end off the LGKs, giving them a lot more headroom to play louder in the mids.
When I play them on my main system in my living room, I roll them off at 120Hz, so I can push them a lot harder than if I let them play full range, as I normally do on my desk, which I rarely push to even 1W since it's mostly podcasts & YouTube with occasional music.
If you swap to monoblocks or even a separate stereo amplifier it's pretty easy to install a high-pass filter between them and use a subwoofer.
And if you're looking to really push speakers to 95+dB I would look at the X-LS Encore, as they'll handle a lot more power, providing a lot more bass extension to 55Hz as well, without the need for a high-pass filter.
