Welcome!
IMO the two most important components in any system are the loudspeakers and the room.
In recent years active monitors have gained popularity among consumers. Used by the vast majority of recording/mixing studio professionals for decades, the general public has finally caught on to the advantages of using a much more sophisticated low voltage preamp and manufacturer matched individual amps paired to each driver for improved dynamics and bass performance not to mention many other sonic advantages.
Not to be confused with cheaper powered speakers, many of which have a stereo integrated amp in one cabinet. Many of the upscale consumer active monitors include wireless connection, built-in DAC's, and room correction DSP. Some of the better active monitors are simpler, less expensive analog versions such as JBL 305 Mk2, Kali IN-8, or Neuman KH 120 that are used in studios. The more expensive, more featured consumer models include KEF LS wireless 2, Buchardt A500, or Kii Audio 3.
17 years ago we built a house that included a well insulated properly proportioned (8ft x 13ft x 21ft) man cave that I can use when I want and without interference. The midfield setup is magical, imaging snaps into place.
BTW I'm a retired engineer (structural for 8 years, environmental for 3 years, and healthcare construction for 26 years) from Lansing MI.
