I've been waiting on VMPS to send me replacement grills for almost a year.  I was just informed that the RM1s were discontinued and that I replacement grills from the factory are no longer available.

I will have to admit that I am frustrated at VMPS for dragging their feet on this.  I have email, dating back to July 2004,  with empty promises stating that I would receive replacement grills, but to this date no such luck.

I first contacted the company with intentions to pay for new grills, but was told that replacement grills would be sent to me without charge.  Well, this was almost a year ago and I still do not have anything from them.

Now, I am asking anyone on this forum for some advice on where to obtain grills for me speakers.  I have been a long time fan of VMPS since my first pair of Mini Tower IIa, but I am quickly losing faith (probably have already lost faith) since I am still without support from them.

Please respond with some advice on my obtaining new grills for my RM1 speakers.

Thanks in advance!
DuDro

P.S.
My first request was made when the RM1 was still being produced, but now I have been told that the cabinet maker is no longer in business; the RM1 is discontinued; and "that there is no liklihood (that I will be able to obtain) a grill in the foreseeable future (from the factory).

Hello Dudro, have you tried sending a PM to Brian ? He is usually a lot easier to get a hold on through PM than any other medium  :D

What happened to your grills?

I had a problem unpacking my 626R and broke the little pegs off both grills.  I contacted Brian and he sent me  new pegs to affix to the grills.  It was a really sijple fix.  If your grills are merely broken in the same way, then perhaps you aren't out of luck.

The RM1 cabinetmaker took a $5000 deposit from me in Jan 2004 and was supposed to supply extra grills and bases.

He managed to close his shop in October without filling my order or refunding my money.  There is a new owner, but he refuses to acknowledge the previous owner's liabilities.

So, our inability to supply a replacement grill was not an inattention on my part.

Brian,

I am sorry to hear about your unfortunate incident with a former supplier; however, I still have a question about how to obtain service for my RM1 speakers.

Like I have said in the past, I AM WILLING to pay for the service on my speakers.:!:  I need new grills and a one new base.  Please let me know how much this will cost and I can send payment.

Sincerely,
DuDro

P.S.
To the previous user that was asking about how they were damaged...
The speakers were damaged during a move by careless movers.  I tried taking it up with them, but they conveniently went out of business.  I now have to deal with this issue out of my own pocket

Thats unfortunate. When i imported my RM30's from the US to germany they took out my "base rails" and it cost me 89EUR to make new ones  :?
Movers just dont seem to care much these days.

Good luck

PS: You can make new ones, just get the dimensions and build a frame and buy some black soundunrestricting cloth

But then again, this is Brian's "666" post...so there are strange things here       j/k

Brian,

Assuming the previous distributor had insurance, insurance should cover his liabilities for up to 5 years prior assuming the policy language is the same as ours, which in most cases is state mandated.  Secondly, if that fails, get a lawyer to help :nono:

Since you have a good grill, take it to a local cabinetshop for duplication.  We can supply cloth and fasteners.  We'd do this ourselves if we had even one RM1 grill to copy.

I would have gone to a local cabinet maker A LONG TIME AGO, had I not been told that I would have received one at no charge from the factory.

I'm just a little frustrated that this was dragged out for SOOOO long.

I guess I will also remove the base from the RM1 and have the cabinet maker fabricate a new one for me as well.

So much for factory support...

it is rare for us not to be able to help a customer.  In this case the local cabinetmaker option is best for you.

I disagree about the lawyer if there's no insurance, for the amount that's posted.  A lawyer might be able to write one letter and, if the person is responsive, get money back.  However, if the person is not responsive, you'd have to begin a lawsuit, which can cost more money than you'll get back.  Then, even if you win the lawsuit, you may never collect.  Even if you can collect, there might be a bunch of other people who are line to collect before you.  If there is insurance, on the other hand, the insurance might pay with little fuss.
