i think this is when you ask for them back or when in the area, pay him a personal visit..

as many good things i have heard about stan, it is customer service like this that is a total turn off of a product- i dont care how good it is..its not even worth considering it...

after running into a couple situations like this ( i am still waiting for my amp &  preamp from another mfg. after 16 months)

i pretty much try to buy from my local dealer and stick with well established brands(one of my classe 350 cam mono blocks went for serivice and i got it within 30 days...WOW !!!!!! that is from southern cal to canada and back)

Clubmyke,
I have asked for them back so many times that it is impossible to keep count.  He just keeps saying that he'll get on it and then he never does.  He has the advantage of knowing that I live on the other side of the country and that my disability makes a personal visit rather impossible. Also he knows my repair money is gone...thanks to him.  You're absolutely right about customer support.  I don't understand why anyone would ever invest in his business, yet I hear all this drivel about the emporer's new cloths.  If I got stung like this, then all of you could get stung like this.  He has had so many opportunities to correct this situation that it's not funny.

I just wanted to let you know I am behind you guys 100%. There is no excuse for that kind of behaviour. If there is anyway you think I can help, just send me a PM and I will see what I can do.

Take care.

Thanks, Steve,
I'm one for putting all the cards on the table.  If there is anything you can do to help me out, please let me know.   Stan told me how he could make my amps into giant killers.  How...by starving the giants to death?  I'm not beyond forgiveness, ya' know.

Why wouldn't you simply contact the local authorities and press charges?

Having talked to Eric about the sound of the Stan Warren modded 5500, I think some of you are missing the point.  He was not saying that the frustration of the long wait was nullified, he was saying the mod was well worth what he paid for it.

This is in no way an indication that it is OK...or that there is any excuse for the long waits and the poor communication that many have experienced.

Bingo-I live less than a mile from Stan. I could go over there, impersonate you and demand my money back. Just a thought...

Eric the red,
Not a bad idea, but I want my gear back...and not rotted either.  Now that he lost my money, he owes me the amp work.  There was a lot of extra hardware that I gave him, like massive military heat sinks for making mono block Superphon amps with(which he didn't) and mono bridging kits for the Haflers, which I wanted back, etc., etc....

Bingo,

Why not contact him once more and ask if someone local can at least collect your amplifier.  At least you would have the amplifier back and cut your losses and move on.

Regards

Rod

Thanks, Rocket,
but believe me, Stan knows how to get in touch with me(look at the return address on my Hafler's box, for one) and I'm sure he is well aware of the current situation.  I have made COUNTLESS phone calls and several letters.  S.O.S.!  I'm not about to kiss his feet for being a victim.   I see no clothes on the emporer.   He has TWO of my Haflers, a bunch of extra pieces and he lost me my U.P.S. claim money.  I'm not the type to eat it and move on.  Thanks, but no thanks.  I do appreciate your concern and interest, though.

I PM'd you Stan's top secret phone number that he actually answers if that will help Bingo although from your posts you've probably already exhausted that avenue. I'm in LA for another week or two working but when I get back I'll toss a brick through his window with an attached note reading "FREE BINGO'S AMP YA MORON!!!

Great designer, poor business man

You guys are beating up a guy for all the wrong reasons. Stan has a great mind, and can design all kinds of things off the top of his head.
He was building state of the art electronics that sold for reasonable money a couple of decades back. That was some of the problem, sold them too cheap, not enough profit to sustain the company.
I have done business with him many times. Never burned, always a happy customer. He is SLOW!
Without knowing the all details of Bingo's problem and hearing this from Stan's point of view it is to compare I cannot be a judge. But after this length of time I doubt it will get resolved.
But I do know that Stan is an extremely honest person. But a good business man he is not.
That is why he does not answer the phone. Once he starts he will go on for hours. His Supermods business had him talking to customers about how to improve electronics. He talked around the clock, and it left little time for the actual mods.
I suspect Stan will return everything he has of Bingo's if he is reminded of this issue. Guess the question is what he still has after all these years.
I have learned about great minds/poor business men. Purchased a dac from another modifier. Charged my card. Six months later, no dac,all the details had changed along with price. When he was ready to ship, I asked for a full refund, no problem.
Another great mind has my old Pioneer PD-91 cdp. It had about 500.00 worth of upgrades done prior to shipping.  Stan modified it in about 1993. Been there 4 years now I ask about it about once a year.
Dealing with these one man operations can be frustrating.

After reading your posts, I cannot be sure of what happened. Were the Haflers damaged before sending to Stan, or were they damaged in shipping to Stan?
Also, was the UPS claim money lost becuase the time period from the claim to an estimated repair cost estimate was so long that they closed the claim?
I have no doubt that it can take forever and a day to get something from not just him, but other modifiers/repairmen. But nine years does seem like a REAL LONG TIME.
Sad thing is that, modifing the amps is most likely a couple hour job. Repairs may take a little more time, and the ordering of replacement transistors if needed. Caps are easy, slap anything in there, call it a major upgrade. The Haflers might have IGBT's, which are scarce now. Might have to go surplus to find them.
I guess he has verified that he still has your amps in the first place? My wife would backdoor any broken gear way before nine years, more like nine weeks.
Sorry to not appear more supportive. I like Stan, want to think the best. I have had problems with others, learned to fix it myself.
A friend from college worked in his dad's TV repair shop. I swear I saw the same televisions sitting there for a couple of years. Just more dust as time went on. I think it might be how electronics repair works. Or does not work.

Unfortunately he and others give all of us small companies a bad reputation. But not all of us are like that.

Now I know why I got no answer when I repeatedly called him. Sorry Bingo and marbles that I wasn't able to help.
