BP17 DAC module
« on: 8 Nov 2022, 06:33 pm »
Question for the group and hopeful someone has actual firsthand experience.  Assuming that USB and HDMI inputs are not needed, how good is the optional DAC module for the BP17?  Another way of asking the question would be which Bryston BDA (1, 2, 3) offers approximately equal performance?

Hi,
Do you refer to BP17 or BP17cubed?

I will receive my 17 cubed with the latest dac module end of this week. I know the bda 3 quite well and also the br20. A first session woth a bp17cubed with dac module gave me the impression it is good but soumnd is not as refined as bda3 and by far less refined as br20. Still for the money it seemed good value. I will test the unit over the weekend and compare to a Merason Dac 1. I will try to report the results.

Once I had the BP-17 cubed, I knew I had to build the rest of my system around it. I ordered the DAC module but didn't stay with it too long before I realized I personally, needed the many extras I would get by going with a BDA-3. IMO, the difference in sound quality is significant.
