so until i get more cs8414s in, i'm really disappointed that i can't put out more monica2s...

i'm speaking to another supplier right now and hopefully will get new parts in in the next few weeks....

Hi Yeo,

Glad to see you were able to sign up here on AC!  Sorry to hear about your experience with your batch of receiver chips.  I'm glad I bought a batch of Monica 2's from you just in time!

I'm sure you'll get it straightened out as soon as you can.  I can vouch for your big effort to give quick turn-around times, and dedication to your side business.  I love how I get quick responses from you...thanks Yeo!  8)

Regards,

Well, I've been playing with my new Monica II. Got the battery and figured out a neat way to mount it all inside a case/box/container. Rather retro. Pseudo cool. Definitely different. Rather liquid to match the liquidity of the DAC itself (that's a clue).

I hope to take a few pictures this evening (a few minor changes to make first) and post them tomorrow for your viewing pleasure.

Enjoy the tease,
Bob

Yeo,

Your page on the Monica II has been down for many days now (http://www.diyparadise.com/dackit/1545dackit.html) and I've been unable to get an e-mail message through either (yeo@diyparadise.com).

Have you moved your page or service provider? ANyone know what's going on?

Thanks,
Bob

From posts I read when I was setting up my SI amp to run off of a 3.4AH SLA, the battery should last a couple of years if you do not run it to zero very often. Just wire up a double-pole-double-throw switch so that the battery is either connected to the DAC or the charger. Batteries really make for a dark background... and fewer obscured details.

He takes PayPal now?

Best,

Paul

I noticed you're running SI to power AKG K1000's, just like me.  I don't particularly want to use batteries and am happy with my Astron linear PS.  But I would like to do a couple of simple mods, namely replacing PS caps and input caps.  Any suggestions of specific brand, voltage, capacitance for these duties?  Thanks.

Even with only 20 - 25 hours the Monica II sounds real nice. It is smooth, warm, tubey sounding. Very sweet and moist.
The dynamics and frequency extremes are rolled compared to my modified Marantz player. This may change with more hours.
I am using a pair of the 12 volt, 2.3 Ah batteries Walmart clearanced for 5.00. One for the analog, and one for the digital.
The two leds  used draw more power than the Monica. It should run for 10 - 12 hours at least between charges.

I have my Monica 2 up and running using 12VDC 1.3AH battery and it sounds very good. I started playing around with step-up transformers to reverse the phase and give a little more output. I need to do a little more listening before I make any final decision on the sound, but so far it is sounding good. I still think I need to work on the filter for the transformers to get the best sound from them, but I will let them break in some more before making any changes.

Brad,

How are those Jensen phase transformers working out?

I just put in an order for a Monica II and can't wait until it gets here.

Best,
KT
