DIY bass traps
« on: 14 Apr 2005, 03:27 pm »
i was in lowes today and saw some cocoon brand  cellulose (loose) insulation. dim. 16"w x 12" h x 24"l in bags at less than $7 per bag.
i was wondering if they could be used for bass traps either single bags in each corner or double stacked bags in the corners and covered in a nice fabric.  any thoughts?

I think you should just use some R26 in rolls. These can be stacked and work well.  I"m guessing but I"d suspect there's more fiberglass there per cubic foot.

The bundles really should work fine.  If they're slightly smaller than a roll, just use more of them.  But I doubt they are smaller- I have a few bundles and they actually weigh more than a roll (probably a diff R factor and brand than you have, but you get the idea).

At the price it's probably worth trying.  Hell, someday you may even insulate something with them!
