Hello Audio Circle.  I'm an old goat renewing interest in high quality audio.
I posted as a reply to a thread but that wasn't right.  This seems better.  Still figuring things out.
Thanks

Well the journey to AC has been a long and winding road.

A younger me was into audio.  Then a lot of life happened.  Then 20 years as a road warrior where I was limited to headphones.  CoVid changed all that.
The last few years I've been working remote from home which has forced me to listen more and well, improvements are needed.  Frustrated that one really can't listen to speakers anymore I turned to reviewers, which led to Danny's videos at GR Research, which led to AC.  I've been lurking for a while.
Back in the day life was simple, we had phono, tape, or tuner.  Now I'm trying to sort out digital formats, DAC's, chip amps, tube amps, streaming services and the devices to receive, good grief.  I like Randy the CheapAudioMan.

I'm starting a journey, we'll see where it goes as budget allows.

Amplifier is mid 80's Yamaha M45, with a C65 preamp.

Source is a Dayton Audio blue tooth reciver connected to the Tuner RCA inputs.  MP3 or ACC from phone or PC.

Y'all be kind, I was going for a vintage vibe at the lake.  Output is rebuilt Bose 501's.

I had no idea DIY is as big as it is.  The value for the $ is appealing.

I'm in process of building a pair of GR's X-LS Encore speakers.  I think most would agree that should be a considerable upgrade over the 501's.

I don't know where it's gonna go from there but I'hope y'all can help guide the way.

Hey Greyhound Fan
My hearts been stolen by 75 pounds of American Pit Bull love.  I knew little of the breed till my daughter brought her home.  She's a credit to the breed.  Strong as hell, used to tow me around the neighborhood on a bike.  She'd pull me 2-3 miles.  Gentle, grand children can do anything to her.  Smart, easy to train.  She 6 years old and has been a joy.

I grew up in SE OK, reared kids in Norman, now reside in future retirement villa near Lake Eufaula.  This house is divided.  Son graduated from OU, Daughter from OSU.

Go Boomer Pokes Sooner, or something like that.  :D

Sounds like we are about the same age.  I graduated from OSU in 81.  Went to medical school in Tulsa.  We may ultimately retire in the Tulsa area depending upon what happens with the global warming trend the next 4-5 years.  Temps are tolerable during the summers here in MN and there is plenty of water.

I am now a Scottish Deerhound fan.  Got one about 3 years ago.  She is in getting spayed right now.

What audio gear do you have?  Never mind, lol.  Those GR speakers will sound awesome.

Welcome to AC WannaBeHiFi,

Also from and still in OK, in my case the Tulsa area. Your Yamaha M45 & C65 are an excellent foundation for reentry into HiFi. I see over on the GR Research circle you are just finishing up the X-LS Encores, another excellent choice. That will be a sweet system, enjoy!

Hey Norman, thanks.
I used a Yamaha A700 integrated amp that I found at Good Will for $25.00 for years.  It started making strange noises.  I was told it could be serviced but wasn't worth the effort.  That's when I discovered the Yamaha M's.  In my research, I've found nothing but praise for those amps.  And unlike the integrated amps that followed, they were designed to be serviced.  So I started lookin'  I looked for years.  I let an M-65 out of Moore pass once.  Regretted that, it was a long time until another popped up.  I didn't piddle on that one.  It's a good specimen.  Primary amp for one owner, replaced by McIntosh about 12 years ago.  It's been well cared for, no dust or spider webs.  I dropped $300.00 without question.  I picked up the C-65 out of Edmond last year.

I rebuilt those old Bose 501's.  They use a lamp as a fuse on the tweeter circuit.  When I replaced them, I powered up and marked the volume where the bulb barely ignighted.  At 120 watts that was about 1/3 of volume.

So, I have 120 old school watts of clean power paired with base level X-LS.  That's gonna be WAY more power than my small room needs.  I'd say 85% of my listening is at low volume while working.  Occasionally moderate volume when seriously listening.  Now, according to Danny, clean power is not a problem for the X-LS.  You can see where that's going.  once I get the wife outta the house....
