WTB 2 channel amp for rear surrounds
« on: 31 Jul 2022, 10:27 pm »
Hello,

Would like to buy a 2 channel amp to power the surround back speakers of a 7.1.4 setup.  The Onkyo tx-rz830 used in this room supports 7.1.4 only when an external amp is connected to the rear surrounds, so don't need a high powered amp to drive fronts.  Prefer low profile, since the AV stand doesn't have a lot of space left, 22" W x 15"D  x 4" H is the limit for what can fit.

Not adverse to Pro Audio amps, as long as if they have loud fans, they can be tamed with putting resistance in line with the fan(s), or can have stock fans replaced with standard quiet PC fans, have done both on multiple PA amps to make them usable in HT areas.

Looking at the monoprice 605030, and will probably grab one later in the week if nothing turns up used at a better price point.

Thanks,

jd3

Hi,
How much power do you need and what's your budget?  I've got a Channel Island Audio C 100 S amp I'm thinking of selling (don't use it anymore).  It's 100 wpc, Class D.  Single ended inputs only.  It does have adjustable gain as well (26 or 32 db).

JD3:  The amp is for a pair of Hsu cubes used for rear surrounds.  The recommended power is from 20w-150w per channel rated for 8 ohms.  Something basic, like the monoprice unity line, so around $100.

Michael:   Responded to your PM.

Thanks,

I have an APT holman stereo amp, actually have 2. I think they're 100 W/channel.  I've attached a generic image.  Other comments here and other places describe the sound as sterile, technical iirc, which may be perfect/fine for rear surrounds.
