I am rebuilding the entire room, and replacing my WWII carpet too  :D
What should i use? Real wood floor, thick carpet or thin carpet?

Thank you for any help

PS: Please no exclusive handmade african carpets

Hi Florian,
I am no expert but I like hardwood with rugs. You can change rug size, shape and thickness to suit your speakers.
Just my two cents,

Thanks for the reply, i was already giving up on getting a tip
I was planning on using just a thick cream/white colored rug. But also thought about hardwood with a rug on top....

I'd use thick carpet in the entire room.

large plank wood floor with carpets

Entire carpeted floor might be comfy, and it will have acoustic properties as more reflections will be absorbed...but not good for people with allergies and a pain to keep clean when you drop food or other items on floor.

What kind of budget are you on?  Installed & site finished wood floors will probably run you $12 - $14 sq.ft and have a long life.  Carpet is obviously cheaper in most cases but much shorter life it becomes more expensive in the long term.  Naturally as the owner of a hardwood flooring company I vote for wood floors and rugs 8)

You probably already have wood floors under your shag don't you?   Just refinish and your done....in and out for $3-$4sq.ft

Well this WWII german construction is quite strange ;-)  They have the stone floor on which they moung wooden bars. They then will in the gaps with some hard foam and then palce the rug over it. My idea was to use a "laminat" wooden floor and then add a nice white round carpet over it. Any good? or should i just buy a thick creamy colored carpet and replace it?

PS: My budget is around 300EUR for the flooring.
