Mess-o-wires back up in here ...
« on: 14 Jul 2022, 01:00 am »
I keep all of my external cabling off the floor and spaced from one another. But ...
Verastarr Illusion JR Series Copper Foil cabling hangs willy-nilly in the back of my OB speakers.
Probably best they not touch one another, right? Especially run parallel with one another, right?
If this is a bad idea, how can I keep space between them?
Blue tape? Cotton balls? What?

They are insulated, so there's no danger if they touch.

The "risk" of being near each other is crosstalk, or magnetic transmission of signal through the air when they are near. It would be extremely small effect because the transmission power is small. Any crosstalk between SCs is not a problem because they are playing same signal so any crosstalk would be buried in signal and inaudible. But if crosstalk is possible then it might be evident with unshielded power cords "transmitting" 60Hz hum noise into the unshielded SCs. You would hear that as hum when the system is silent. So if you can't hear any hum, you're all set. If you can hear hum them move the SCs away from or perpendicular to PCs.

Ah, thank you @richidoo .  :thumb:
The speakers came with these. Did not realize they were insulated.

Those copper foils are unusual to say the least.  They appear to be single conductor speaker wires.
If so, they won't follow the rules the same way normal cables do.
They can act as RFI interference antennas. (the interference sneaks in thru the amps feedback network)
They might be sensitive to magnetic fields.
The more widely spaced the two conductors are, the more they might roll-off the high treble response.

Foil cables are quite common, nothing unusual at all.  I have a pair of Magnan interconnects made of ultra thin bronze ribbon with a 600 ohm resistance and they are my clearest and most musical cable.

Nothing unusual? nonsense!
600 Ohm, Radio Frequency Characteristic Impedance? no way!

Bonded together back-to-back foil conductors could make a good speaker cable, or a low-voltage DC supply cable.
But never an interconnect cable.

I would chat with Mike Powell at  Verastarr. He's in your area and is usually very helpful.

Thank you all for replies.

@TomS - Hi Tom. I sent him a msg a while back but never got a reply. I'll try again.
