Hey everyone!

It's a pleasure to find this kind of community and reading from posts to posts, I love it!

I've been collecting/upgrading/modding headphones and headphone equipment for about a decade now and recently experienced what brings a really good speakers setup and decided to begin my journey into the speakers world.

I'm in the IT industry, so I listen to music ~6h/day. Maybe it's why everyone say I'm so cheerful!

I currently own a pair of Hifiman Arya Stealth Edition plugged on a Topping D90SE/A90 stack and don't think I'll be moving from there (I hope haha). I feel I own a good headphones setup for when I want to listen to Clean and Crisp sound but the bass, even controlled, would never compare to the true, whole body experience a good speakers setup would bring.

Headphones + a sub is "heresy" for me because you cannot share (realistically) the experience with someone at the same time and the sub frequency will rattle walls in my house without my girlfriend being able to enjoy the whole music

It would be fair to call me an audiophile, but I think that the word "audiophile" is an overly restrictive term that remove the nuances between individuals.
In short:
- I love clean and detailed sound, controlled frequency ranges and huge 3D/holographic soundstage;
- I enjoy listening to colored sound too, but prefer the clinical, non-colored and non-distorted sound a good setup brings;
- I also love tweaking things to my taste and don't really care how complex it could be: Learning new things is the most fun part of it!

I previously had a pair of Högtalare from Morel (bluetooth speakers) and really enjoyed them but they colored the sound a little bit too much to my taste (but still sounded great) and couldn't be connected to my tv without any sound delay through bluetooth or bad hissing/distortion through cables so I was restricted to music.

My current setup is a PC plugged on a 75in tv with the following audio chain:
Topping D90SE (Stereo DAC, Blutooth receiver) -> 2x Topping LA90 (mono mode) -> Pair of SVS Ultra towers.

I saw GR-Research is selling an upgrade kit for the Ultra Towers, maybe I'll splurge some day if the itch never goes away.

I'm looking to get a sub next to get these frequencies deep down and add some more "sound pressure" because the room is 15ft x 17ft with a HUGE sofa taking the whole 17ft north wall.

I really don't mind about the price, what is important to me is the experience and to get that itch scratched properly so I don't feel the need to upgrade.

Any recommendation for the sub I should get?

TL;DR: I'm a Headphones Audiophile that recently began his journey into Speakers for music and cinema. I'm looking to always improve the sound at my house and definitely have a lot to learn when it comes to room accoustics, speakers brands + all the innards, measurements + anything from that world. I'm also in the processes to get a good powered sub that I won't have the itch to upgrade anytime soon.

Welcome!

I'm a fan of active monitors, but it's hard to find an affordable multi-channel pre-amp/DAC.  For passive speakers I might suggest looking at Ascend Acoustics or Buchardt.

For subwoofers recommend SVS, Rythmik, or PreSonus depending largely on what connections you need.

Thanks everyone for the welcomes!

@JLM Thx for the suggestions! I really do like the path that unravel when you go Active Speakers for its simplicity (amplification is built-in and tailored to the speaker) but I feel Passive Speakers give me a better feeling of "robustness/sturdiness" and I feel I will be able to upgrade them more easily than Active ones. I'm still discovering brands by reading and looking to videos and I still feel there's so much to learn!

I had a whole lot of hesitation before I pulled the trigger on my pair of SVS Ultra Towers. Other contenders were the Arendal 1723 Tower S, the Monolith Encore T6 and Monolith 465T.

I'm extremely curious about the Passive Tower Speakers are selling. I mean, I'm actually considering upgrading my SVS Ultra Towers with the upgrade kit sold on gr-research.
