This is a very particular kind of sale. I bought this amp a couple of months ago and love it so much that I am hoping to move up to the Signature series, but for me it is Vitus or bust. For anyone out there looking for an all-in-one solution, this amp is easily the best I have ever heard or tried, and I've owned the Boulder 866, Lyngdorft TDAI-3400, and a Devialet, among others. The onboard DAC and streamer are shockingly good, and the amp is powerful enough to drive just about any pair of speakers imaginable.
I have found that I prefer to have some tubes in the chain simply because I like the option of rolling them for different flavors, so I am using my Lampizator Baltic 3, making the excellent onboard DAC and streamer in this unit superfluous for me. But believe me, it is neck and neck and would come down to personal tastes as to which is "better." Also, my speakers are very efficient so the tremendous power of the 101 mk2 is probably overkill.
Let me restate that I am absolutely fine living with the 101 mk2 for the rest of my days. It is the best amp I've ever had in my twenty-five years in the hobby. If I can finagle a move to the slightly more compatible (for my system) SIA series, great. If not, I'll withdraw the ad and live happily ever after with this beauty.
I have an extensive feedback record on Audiogon and US Audio Mart, so you can buy with confidence. The unit is in pristine condition and probably not even fully broken in yet. But the sound is simply unbelievable, and I do mean gobsmacking. If you're a fan of Boulder, Pass Labs, Plinius, Gryphon, or other excellent solid state amps but you haven't heard a Vitus, you really should. I can tell you for sure there's no going back for me.
