schiit modi multibit

The modi is a chip DAC, not R2R.

r2r topology can exist in discrete form or be miniaturized onto a silicon chip, in either case they are not delta-sigma/bitstream topology, they work as resistor ladders

I had no clue anyone was doing r2r in chips anymore. Thanks for the correction.

There is a cheap PCM56 DAC on aliexpress & eBay that has been mentioned in "more Amazing DACs for Peanuts"
1x SPDIF input only.

BYO 24V DC power supply.

They look similar but they are actually different devices if you look at the back of each.  One has HDMI input the other has what seem like reclock and spdif inputs.  And, the one in my link has two DC inputs... weird.

Hi, I am new here. Small Lee L1387 x 4 USB DAC serve me well around 5 years . I believe it is NOS DAC. Next up will look into Lee TDA1543 x 16 DAC  :)

Denafrips, Metrum and Audio GD have all made good sounding R2R DACS that were/are not too expensive.  You may be able to find a used older model that would meet the C&C standard.

Hi wushuliu, have you heard or possibly own a Soekris dac, and if so, would you be willing to give me your impressions of the brand? I've been looking at R2R dacs and I am very curious about them and this seems like a good price point to get my feet wet.

Thanks,
JCarney

My personal experience w/ Soekris was with his original DIY boards. He is very meticulous and the designs are very high quality. His later revisions sound excellent. I would describe as a very natural but 'modern' presentation, not syrupy or overly warm/smooth. His retail dacs get really high marks, especially the 1541 and 2541. Very high bang for the buck for the admittedly quite crowded <$1k market. $500 for a R2R dac w/ precision parts and European built is impressive.

hope this helps
