A sad day to hi quality rock, his music had no clichés, it was above the standards of prog rock, his band Aphrodite's Child was a revolution in the early 70s, one of the best composers in rock, in the 70's there was a rumour that Jon Anderson wanted Vangelis in Yes but he was not English and was opposed by Chris Squire, what lead to various albums in duo with Jon Anderson as:
1980 - Short Stories
1981 - The Friends of Mr. Cairo
1983 - Private Collection
1984 - The Best of Jon & Vangelis
1991 - Page of Life
In 1992 France awarded him with Chevalier Order of Arts and Letters and UK nothing.
One of the best.
RIP

Wow, we lost a lot of great musicians recently. Alan White from Yes, Andy Fletcher from Depeche Mode, and now Vangelis. The original Blade Runner soundtrack has been one of my most played albums for decades. I have every version of it. RIP Sir, and thank you for all the great music!
