About Our Cotton Insulation
The music signal carried by a cable travel as much in the field that surrounds the wire, as in the wire itself. If you interfere with one, then you impact on the other. Nearly all high-end audio cables on the market, including those claiming an air dielectric, and those using just a thin layer of cotton insulation, still put plastics in the signal’s field. Plastics cannot store and release energy as fast as the signal changes, inducing a time-smeared signal back into the wire.
Woven cotton is very nearly as perfect a dielectric as air, and contains mainly air, and so it radically reduces time-smearing of the music signal. But it can't just be a thin coating and needs to be thick enough to contain the entire field surrounding the wire to avoid discontinuities in the field - such as a layer of plastic, carpets, wallboards, racks and other cables coming into the field. Antipodes Audio cables use large-scale proprietary woven pure cotton assemblies that are functionally and audibly superior to any plastic or cotton/plastic insulation.
About Our Metallurgy
The perfect metal for audio cable doesn't exist, and so it is necessary to use a mix of metals to achieve the characteristics needed. All of our cables employ a totally unique silver/gold/platinum wire, which we manufacture ourselves from raw ingots to achieve the correct purity, ductility, crystalline structure and virtual immunity to resonance. We make ultra-pure soft silver wire and then infuse the outer layer deeply with gold and platinum to disperse the fundamental resonance of silver, rendering it utterly neutral, without any loss of speed, resolution or phase accuracy.
We use the same exotic wire in both our interconnects and our speaker cables.
Our Reference interconnects employ ultra-pure solid soft gold wires in equal measure with the silver/gold/platinum wires to achieve a perfect balance of all that we can ever wish for in a cable. This unique use of materials is superior to using just pure gold wires (diminished transient speed) or pure silver cables (a peaky low-treble resonance), and significantly outperforms the use of alloys or plated wires (which create small eddy currents that obscure detail).
About Our Cable Geometries
Nearly all high-end audio cables use complex geometries that mitigate the susceptibility of copper wires to pick up background noise, or to go some way towards taming the sometimes-harsh treble resonance of silver wires. But whenever conductors are twisted, braided or shielded, the fields surrounding the wires suffer from complex mutual interference. This creates small phase errors that challenge the ear/brain process, obscuring detail, causing fatigue, and getting in the way of the emotional parts of the brain engaging with the music. This is a key reason why cables have different sound 'flavors', and why almost all sound a little wrong.
Because Antipodes Audio never uses copper and tames silver by infusing it with gold and platinum and uses a geometry that is unusually effective at shunting noise to ground, we can use simple phase coherent cable geometries that don't introduce mutual interference. The result is more musically engaging, with an ultra-low noise floor, natural and open clarity and very fine detail resolution, without listener fatigue.
