Typically VS updates the badging on the speakers to show the new/upgrade versions. I've seen them on multiple VR-4's and VR-7's. Here's an example of vr-5, the MK-II status is stamped on the serial number section. It's blurry but you can download image and zoom in to see.

Weren't the SE's introduced after the Anniversaries? I thought the lineage went (in order of release):

• VR-5
• VR-5 Anniversary
• VR-5 Anniversary MKII
• VR-5 SE

I could be wrong.

I found a Postive Feedback review from 2008 of the VR-5 Anniversary model that mentions the SE was made from 2005 and the Anniversary model in 2008. It is a glowing review of these. I really am ogling these but am 12 hours from NC.

Interesting. The speakers for sale here are marked VR-5SE Anniversary Edition. Mine are simply marked VR-5 Anniversary and do not have the data link.

I sent some pictures to Damon and he basically told me mine are MKII status but by the info you guys have added makes me think I have the latest version anyway. Anybody want to take a road trip and take them for $6500? My next option is stripping the drivers and have the cabinet painted in an automotive finish. I was thinking a dark charcoal or silver color? Obviously I would definitely need to get the $8500 if I put the time and money in painting them. What do you guys think I should do? Thanks

Leave them as they are. Black goes with pretty much anything. Charcoal and silver not as much.

That version of tweeter has the aluminum phase plug. So it would be aluminum in color. If it is black, it probably is not that tweeter. Didn't you have photos on here recently?

Yes the tweeter phase plug is very sharp and dangerous when moving them.
