I discovered "A Writer's Odyssey" in a recent NY Times newsletter
Watching: Five Action Movies to Stream NowThe film is two stories that are intertwined. The first is about Guan Ning as he searches for his daughter, believing her to be kidnapped by human traffickers. The second is about Lu Kongwen, a young novelist who is writing a fantasy novel about an evil God. Events in the novel are impacting the real world. The movie takes place in two realms: the real and the fantastical with plenty of action in both.

The CGI is state-of-the-art and the fight scenes have flawless wire work. The costumes and creatures reminds me of Guillermo Del Toro.

I can't comment on the acting or dialog because the version I saw was dubbed but nobody had long speeches so it didn't matter that much. A Writer's Odyssey is a Chinese blockbuster popcorn movie.
