Reciever or Integrated amp for new LKG's
« on: 27 Mar 2022, 04:23 pm »
Good morning.

I was looking at the new LKG's.   I was looking at using a sub with them.   Are there any stereo receivers or integrated amps that allow for base management?  Want to beat able to set the crossover for at what frequency to send sound to either the sub or the speakers.  Is that needed though?

Wanting to do a setup for a turntable for my 21 yo daughter, now she is just using a inexpensive suitcase turntable. This will be an intoduction to hifi for her.

I currently use a Rotel RA-12 intigrated stereo amp with my LGKs. It does not have bass management built in. I let the LGKs play full range and dial the sub in to match with the controls on the sub's plate amp.

Some 2.1 amps/preamps I'm aware of are the Parasound Halo P6 is a 2.1 channel preamp with bass management; Marantz 40n is a 2.1 integrated amp with bass management; and NAD has the C399,M10, M33, C368 (limited bass management), and C388 (limited bass management

The Oatlaw reciever ,think is 2260mk2 ,sounds good and has a decent phono input and bass managment .I had the previous version with Dynaudio 52s and two small REL 108s and sounded fantastic to me

I ordered a Cambridge Audio AXR100.

When a sub is connected it cross over to the sub at 200 hz.

Which I believe will work well.

Not sure what sub to use though.

Apartment on 4th floor, 12' x 12' main listening area.

Open floor plan, opens up to a room 12' by 20'.

The sub output is a fixed 200Hz low-pass filter. Which likely isn't rolling off the bass of the speakers when connected or otherwise, you will need to go into the settings of the amp and adjust the 100Hz "bass EQ" levels down to -6dB as needed, depending on how loud you need the LGKs to play.
You may be able to get away with no EQ most of the time, but the more you adjust it down the louder they can play so long as you adjust the crossover and volume of the sub to compensate.

For a somewhat budget option, the Rythmik L12 as a solid option for a sealed sub.

Thank you everyone, for your responses.
Maybe I should cancel the Cambridge, since it does not have configurable Bass managemt, and 200 is a little high for the bass crossover.

The other two reciever/integrated amps I am considering are the Emotiva TA1, and a Marantz NR1510.  The Marantz is a 5 channel home theater receiver with configurable Bass management.  The Emotiva is an Integrated Amplifier.

Below is some information on the Emotiva:

Outputs
1 pair - stereo full range main outputs.
1 pair - stereo high-pass outputs; with fixed 90 Hz Linkwitz-Riley high-pass filter.
1 - subwoofer output; with fixed 90 Hz Linkwitz-Riley low-pass filter.
1 - high performance stereo headphone output.

Perhaps the NAD C 328 is a better solution?  The crossover to the sub is at 100 hz.
