Hi: I already have the DCC Gold CD of Hotel California and I have a chance to grab the Japanese Hybrid SACD version(WPCR-14165),but was wondering if the sound is better, worse or the same as the DCC version.Does anyone have both and like to comment on the sound quality between the two?
I am only talking about the stereo layer. Thanks.

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.
DCC was a defunct Philips format similar to rbCD,  its not hi rés as the SACD which is DSD64.

This is one resource I will look at from time to time - https://dr.loudness-war.info/album/list?artist=&album=hotel+california    The current version I have in my file playback is the HDTracks 24-192 file.  I have not listened to the album in quite some time.

Interesting.  Just for clarity for anyone reading this thread, those DR figures for “Hybrid SACD” are for the CD layer.  The Multichannel SACD layer is reported as 12, 10, 14.

I have this SACD and the multichannel version sounds great!  I know the OP isn’t interested in the multichannel version, but others reading this thread may be.

As for comparing the DCC version to the stereo layer (CD?) on the hybrid SACD, I don’t have the DCC version to compare, but the DR readings aren’t encouraging for the 2 channel layer on the SACD.

Oddly, Roon reports the same DR number for the stereo and multichannel layer.   To my ears, the 2 channel layer does sound more compressed than the multichannel, though the 2 channel doesn’t sound bad by any means.
