Old guy new to this forum
« on: 11 Mar 2022, 07:39 pm »
Hello!
I have been following this forum as a guest for a few months.  Found it from the GR Research page.  Bought some of their braided cable, excellent product priced very well.
My audio hobby began when I was very young.  After seeing a film in the Cinerama with my grand dad we went behind the curtain so I could see where that incredible sound came from.  There they were, Altec Lansing Voice of the Theatre A2 systems, incredible.  As I was about 10 years old these things were taller than I which was inspiring.  I was hooked.
My first stereo was my grand dads Grundig console stereo.  Loved playing vinyl on it.
Over the years I have owned a lot of gear, most of it mid-fi because of cost.  But I buy what I like when I can afford it.
Carver C1 pre
Carver PM900 (two)
Rega P3 with Ortofon 2M Black
Thorens TD124 (restoring it)
Klipsch H700 Heresy circa 1985
JBL 250 Ti
No digital transport or DAC as yet.  Hope to learn enough through this forum to maybe get involved with that media.

Welcome Citizen,

A couple of PM900's should suffice!  I love the old Carver gear (got some myself).

Enjoy the AC!

Citizen4 - Welcome back my friend to the show that never ends. You mustn't think older, think "more experienced", Ha Ha! If you have decent speed internet service into your home, and don't mind setting up network stuff, I can't think of a better, more cost-effective way to augment what you already have than to get a Bluesound node feeding into your preamp. The overall quality of the free streaming channels is fantastic, without even paying for Hi Res subscriptions. The Node will grow with you and make you smile - a lot!  :D

Welcome Citizen4!
3x ditto on the Bluesound Node.  It literally brings the world of music to your system and sounds good.  I run the Vault2i because of a CD collection but spend 99% of the time listening to internet radio from around the world and in my back yard.
The Node also enables wireless network speakers.  I’m done running wires to secondary speakers which were primarily for background music.  I now use a Pulse Flex 2i to plug in wherever I want.

AllanS - I started with a Vault (3/4 full now), then got a node and also a Powernode just for the TV. Having your own music on the Vault is a godsend if your ISP goes down, and you can link everything and choose your sources easily - once you are used to the Bluesound OS anyway. The flexibility to expand and upgrade is wonderful, for not a lot of money. I have a dozen jazz stations from all over the world bookmarked and fall back on Radio Paradise when I am not in the mode for jazz.
